Quality postpartum care is essential to keep the new mothers and newborns safe.

Louisiana has long struggled with maternal and infant mortality. In New Orleans, free home visits by nurses help spot medical problems early. It's a reproductive health policy with bipartisan support.

Coping in childbirth

✨ 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬! 𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 🤰💬Labor can be intense — but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. The brain can only focus on a few things at once, which means distraction can actually help reduce discomfort and keep you feeling more in control during labor!

Here are some practical (and fun!) ways to stay confident and comforted during labor 💫:

🎶 Create your labor playlist
Whether it’s calming melodies or upbeat favorites, music can shift your focus and soothe your nerves.

❤️ Touch & support
Holding a smooth stone, squeezing a stress ball, or receiving massage and pressure from your partner or doula can make a big difference.

👀 Bring imagery or a focal point
Photos of loved ones, peaceful art, or mantra cards — something to gaze at during contractions.

🌬️ Practice breathing patterns
Experiment with different breathing rhythms now, so they feel natural when you’re in labor.

🕺 Move, sway, dance, or walk
Movement isn’t just a distraction — it can also help labor progress and keep you active.

😂 Laugh — seriously!
Jokes, funny videos, or storytelling release endorphins (your body’s feel-good hormones).

🍬 Little comforts count
Sucking on candy or crunching ice might sound simple — but they’re surprisingly effective distractions!

💧 Use water & heat/cold
Warm showers, baths, heating pads, or cool packs can help you relax and stay present.

🌸 Scent & meaningful objects
Your favorite lotion, a comfortable item from home, or even essential oils can add comfort and familiarity.

Have you heard of BUTT WALKING or FLOOR CRAWLING?

These gentle, low-impact movements can help create space in the pelvis and encourage baby to settle into a more favorable position before labor 💛

👣 BUTT WALKING
Sit on the floor with legs extended and “walk” forward using your sit bones. This movement helps mobilize the pelvis and soften tension around the sacrum.

🐾 CRAWLING
Hands and knees, slow and mindful. This position encourages baby’s back toward your belly and can help relieve pressure while promoting balance in the uterus.

💡 Why it can help at 39 weeks:
• Encourages pelvic mobility
• Supports optimal fetal positioning
• Can feel grounding and empowering
• Easy, free, and intuitive movement

✨ Tip: Move slowly, breathe deeply, and stop if anything feels uncomfortable. Always listen to your body.

✨ Your Birth, Your Power — and You Don’t Have to Do It Alone ✨

Not all births looks like this! But birth asks everything of you — your strength, your breath, your courage.

A doula brings calm, grounding, and continuous support so you can move through each wave with confidence and connection.

Posting with permission, from a few weeks ago. This woman safely rocked her homebirth with her midwifery team Paige and yours truly

Doula support:
💛 Emotional + physical support
💛 Comfort measures (breathwork, positions, touch, water therapy)
💛 Evidence-based info to help you make choices you feel good about
💛 Steady presence for you and your partner — from the first contraction to the first cry

Your birth story matters.

We see you moving through a world that tells you to shrink, doubt, and hand your power to someone else. At The Womb Room, we do the opposite. We teach you to trust your body, your voice, your instincts. If that counts as breaking the rules, then we’ll keep breaking them. This community grows stronger every time someone remembers what they’re made of.
