Just did a presentation at Harbor Hospital, and I have to say that the patients on the units are truly my heroes and are very brave. Some have been used and abused, have lost everything and everyone, and are still fighting to stay alive! That is heroic to me đŸ’Ș

It’s been more than 2 years since I’ve posted in here (thanks Covid) but I’m back and Jogging 4 Journals is back! I just started back with presentations so I will be giving journals to patients at Harbor Hospital once a month! And I will have a table at 3 Out of the Darkness Walks for su***de prevention in September and October where walkers can write their own encouraging messages to the patients! Glad to be back!! â˜ș

I had a presentation at Harbor Hospital on Wednesday and the patients loved the journals! Two of the patients already had journals from J4J and one of them told me that when the tech gave it to her, she saw the message on the inside and she teared up. She said that it was a wonderful message and she really felt loved. So happy we are helping people 😊

I know that Christmas is right around the corner, and I am still selling the “You Are Loved” books that I self-publishing earlier this year!

As you know, the “You Are Loved” book is a compilation of true stories of hope and encouragement. If you’ve ever struggled with mental illness or lost someone to su***de, or know someone who has, this book is for you.

“You Are Loved” will give you hope, encouragement, and the knowledge that you are not alone!

All proceeds from the sale of this book go to Jogging 4 Journals, to help give the coping skill of journaling to inpatients with mental illness.

If you’d like to buy a copy of “You Are Loved” please go to www.paypal.com and enter email address j4j2018@yahoo.com. Please donate $5 if you’d like to pick up your book and $8 if you’d like it shipped. If you’d like it shipped, please include your address in the “notes” section. $5 goes to buying journals for 10 patients!

Thank you!

I did two presentations this week, at Harbor and Franklin Square Hospitals. Presentations went great and, as always, the patients love the journals and appreciate them so much!! One person at FSH had already gotten a journal and she told me that it helped her so much and thanked me. No thanks needed, I’m just so grateful that we are helping people!! Thank you for your support, everyone!! 😊

Hi friends! I am looking for other ways to fundraise for Jogging 4 Journals and wanted your opinions on ways that you would be more likely to contribute. If you were to help fundraise, which way would you be more likely to do so: 1) virtual 5k or 2 miler run/ walk (I would actually like to do this in May 2020 if people want to do it), 2) meditation event, 3) spirit night at a restaurant or other place, 4) donation of journals themselves, 5) straight donation through PayPal. Please comment either the number or whatever else you would like to do that i did not think of. Thank you!!!

Jogging 4 Journals story

Hi! My name is Megan and I am the founder of Jogging 4 Journals, or J4J. I began this project in 2016 with the goal of helping people who are just like me and have a mental illness. I have lived with some form of mental illness since the age of six, and was formally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder 14 years ago at the age of 24. I am now living well with my illnesses, so in 2016, I decided it was time to give back.

J4J began with me running a race every month and asking for donations in honor of those races. With that money, I bought journals for patients on my local hospital’s psychiatric unit. I currently give journals to patients at Franklin Square Hospital twice a month, and Harbor Hospital once a month. I give presentations about how I live well with my illnesses through NAMI Baltimore, and then I hand out the journals. Running has been a great coping skill for me, so I use my coping skill to bring the coping skill of journaling to patients with mental illness.

The patients LOVE the journals and ask for them all the time. They can use the journals to write down their treatment plan, coping skills, or just write down their feelings and thoughts. Journaling has also helped me so much in my recovery with mental illness!

I now fundraise by doing fundraisers with a non-profit called Dancing Sunshine, Inc. You will also see J4J at su***de prevention walks in the Maryland area and NAMI Maryland Walks. I usually have a table and ask people to write encouraging notes for the patients that I put on the inside of each journal, and at the NAMI Walks, I am able to fundraise as well. In 2019, I will be having some events throughout the year. J4J will be putting together a book by individuals affected by mental illness and/ or su***de, and we will be having a meditation event and a virtual 5k event!
