In January, 2002 my brother Rich suffered severe head trauma when a car crossed the median on 295 near Washington DC and hit him and another car. He was in a coma and paralyzed. My family refused to "let him go" as the doctors advised so we brought him home and began the process of research and investigation that led us to the Quadriciser. The Quadriciser moves all four of your limbs and simulates reciprocal movements of walking while lying in the supine position. This cross-crawl pattern stimulates the brain and improves muscle function. This unique device along with intense one on one therapeutic exercise provided the basis for my brothers recovery and ongoing progress. After witnessing the near-miraculous advances made by my brother, I wanted to bring the benefits of the Quadriciser and therapeutic rehabilitation to others with neurological and physical disabilities. TheraFit was founded in 2006. TheraFit Rehab is a provider of distinctive therapeutic exercise, health, and wellness programming for the disabled community. We serve people of all ages with disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, paraplegia, quadriplegia, obesity, and other debilitating aliments. We also serve seniors with conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart and lung disease, and other age-related problems. We utilize adaptive equipment not available elsewhere in this area to rehabilitate, maintain and restore quality of life. Providing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and maintenance programs designed to improve the overall whole health of people with neurological conditions through a long-term continuum of care. The Ants (and our little friend, Baruch) go marching on!

Pediatric rehab is so fun! Baruch has been working on his walking and is already taking a few unsupported steps but struggles to get his right knee straight. We trialed this set up with great results! He went from walking just a few minutes at a time with hand support to walking 16 minutes straight with consistent right leg movement!

This harness system is typically for our adult clients but is clearly versatile enough to accommodate our little friends which just opens up so much more opportunities for fun with walking and singing!

So what is really going on here?

During this client's session, she wanted to work on her balance with sudden changes. We are specifically mimicking those tight refrigerator doors that release just a little too suddenly and send her falling backwards. This patient and her therapist were laughing through some funny trials of this problematic task which just makes facing those challenges something to look forward to rather than fear

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at TheraFit Rehab! We are profoundly thankful to God for guiding us to turn personal trials into a mission of hope and healing for HIS glory. Our story began with my brother Rich, whose resilience after a traumatic brain injury inspired the vision for TheraFit, and it continues with his son Christopher, who was born with significant disabilities and is also part of the TheraFit family. Their strength and determination drive everything we do.

We are incredibly grateful for our amazing Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists, Front Desk Staff, Fitness Trainers, Sarah, our incredible partner in New Jersey, and her dedicated team who all play vital roles in changing lives. Your hard work, compassion, and dedication make a tremendous impact every day.

Our Story

The journey from disaster to miracle began in January of 2002. Richard Ayres, beloved husband, new father, and adored son, brother, and uncle was struck head-on by a drunk driver. Suffering from severe head trauma, Rich was in a coma and paralyzed. His family refused to “let him go”, as the doctors advised, and began the process of research and investigation that led them to the Quadriciser®.

The Quadriciser moves all four of your limbs and simulates reciprocal movements of walking while lying in the supine position. This cross-crawl pattern stimulates the brain and improves muscle function. This unique device along with intense one on one therapeutic exercise provided the basis for Rich’s recovery and ongoing progress. Rich’s dedication, as well as his family’s desire to see him thrive, started a process of recovery that could only be defined as miraculous.

After witnessing the advances made by her brother, Gina wanted to bring the benefits of the Quadriciser and one on one therapeutic rehabilitation to others suffering physical disabilities. She especially wanted to help those with limited incomes and whose insurance no longer covered their rehabilitation.
