We're pleased to share that Sydni Walden, APRN, has joined Saint Joseph Medical Group – Pediatrics in London and Primary Care in Corbin. Walden, who spent the past five years of her career as a nurse in Saint Joseph London’s intensive care unit, says she is thrilled to continue serving the area and that she practices patient care with an empathetic, compassionate approach, rooted in her passion for supporting others.

“I know the fear and uncertainty,” she said. “I want families to know I will listen to them and be empathetic. I’m not just here to provide medical care – I’m here emotionally as well. My goal is to meet patients where they are in their health care journey, care for them as if they were my own family, and build relationships with them as I watch them grow and celebrate their milestones.”

Welcome to the team, Sydni!

We are excited to share that Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiology in London has welcomed Syed Rashid, MD, to its team.

Dr. Rashid joins the London team from New York City and brings a deep passion for cardiology. He earned his Bachelor of Science in life science from the University of Toronto in Mississauga, Canada, before completing his medical degree at Poznan University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland. He went on to complete post-graduate training and research at several medical centers in New York.

At the core of Dr. Rashid’s patient care philosophy is trust and collaboration. “The most important thing is building a relationship where the patient trusts you. It’s important for patients and doctors to work together rather than telling the patient what to do.”

Welcome to the team, Dr. Rashid!

All Lights for Life donations are made in tribute to a loved one. Memorials in their memory will be displayed at the Berea Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6, and at Saint Joseph Berea in the main lobby. They will also be advertised in The Berea Citizen.

When an EF-4 tornado with winds reaching 170 mph devastated Laurel County last May, an uncharacteristically slow night in the Saint Joseph London ER became a mission of life-saving community support.

Following the timeline of that night, this incredible story highlights what it means to be truly here for our community. From critical care in the midst of fear and uncertainty, to service in the aftermath supporting efforts to heal and rebuild. Our caregivers are more than health care providers; they are neighbors, ready to serve when it matters most.

We’re here for you. Read the full story of resilience, compassion and humankindness on our blog: https://ow.ly/a5bN50Xim7E

Sonja McCarty puts the numbers together with the people. The 27 year Saint Joseph veteran, based at Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics in Mount Sterling, travels among other Saint Joseph orthopedic clinics, from Lexington, Lebanon, Corbin and points in between.

Under her purview as clinic administrator of Saint Joseph Medical Group’s orthopedic line, patient experience metrics increased and critical goals were met—both significant factors in her being named the 2024 Leader of the Year for both Saint Joseph Medical Group and the Saint Joseph Health/CommonSpirit Kentucky ministry overall.

But to Sonja, those numbers simply mean this: “It’s supporting the managers in their roles so that they can support the caregivers to provide the best care to our patients.”

The key, Sonja said, is that everyone has a voice in the Saint Joseph ministry. “... I think when you let everybody have that voice, it really makes an impact and a difference,” she said. “And I think our organization allows that and encourages that.”
