Great advice from Dr. Liz Carter on how to stay healthy this winter!:
#1 Reduce inflammatory foods
Irritating food creates a mess for your immune system to clean up, taking resources away from its ability to defend you against viruses.
#2 Wear a scarf when outside to protect your neck
In Chinese medicine, pathogens are believed to enter at the base of your neck so keep it covered!
#3 Go to bed before 10:30
Sleep is the main time your body repairs itself. In Chinese medicine, the sleep you get before midnight is the most restorative.
#4 Wash your hands regularly
Handwashing is way more effective than hand sanitizing, so wash whenever you can.
#5 Know that getting sick is normal
If you get sick, remember that you’re not a failure for experiencing a natural part of being human. Sickness, especially with a fever, is your body’s way of rebalancing your health.
#6 Eat pears
They support your lung health that’s naturally more vulnerable this time of year.
#7 Reduce your stress wherever possible
Your stress hormone cortisol is an immune suppressant.
#8 See an acupuncturist
Acupuncture is great for supporting your immune system and overall health!
