Our team provided cardiovascular screenings and shared heart health education, emphasizing prevention and early detection.

Baton Rouge Cardiology Center was proud to have Sarah Lindsay, FNP-C, present last week to Mrs. Piper Oubre’s Introduction to Health Occupations class at Dutchtown High School.

Sarah spoke with students about heart health and prevention, while also sharing the wide range of career opportunities in cardiology - from physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to radiologic technologists, nurses, and specialized roles in areas like the cath lab, PET/CT, and treadmill testing.

It was a great opportunity to help students explore future careers in healthcare and inspire the next generation of medical professionals.

These hands-on sessions are an important part of community education—equipping individuals with the skills and confidence to respond during cardiac emergencies.

Dr. Steven Kelley, Interventional Cardiologist, provided cardiovascular and EKG screenings and engaged with attendees on the importance of prevention and early detection.

Today we honor the life and legacy of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧, founding physician of Baton Rouge Cardiology Center and the first cardiologist to practice in Baton Rouge.

A true pioneer in cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Calvin helped shape modern heart care in our community and devoted his life to serving patients with compassion, innovation, and unwavering dedication. His vision, leadership, and commitment to excellence continue to guide our practice today.

We are deeply grateful for the foundation he built and the countless lives he touched throughout Baton Rouge and beyond.

In a recent interview with WAFB TV, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗠𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲, Interventional Cardiologist at Baton Rouge Cardiology Center and Chief of Cardiology at Baton Rouge General Medical Center, explained what happens when a patient arrives at the hospital during a heart attack.

When a heart attack occurs, patients are brought to the cardiac catheterization lab, where physicians can quickly open the blocked artery causing the heart attack and begin lifesaving treatment.

⏱️ The national benchmark to open the artery after arrival is 90 minutes
⚡ At Baton Rouge General, that time has been reduced to just 43 minutes
🤝 That speed is made possible through coordination between EMS, the emergency department, cardiologists, and hospital staff

This teamwork helps ensure patients receive rapid, lifesaving care when every second counts.
