LSU School of Social Work recognizing Joshua as a supervisor!

Today we are expressing our thanks for one of our outstanding agency partner supervisors, Joshua Wartelle! Social work “just makes sense” for Joshua, a clinical social worker who comes from a family of educators. He first started working with student interns at the height of the pandemic at Start Corporation in their homeless services center.

Since then, Joshua has been helping our students gain experience at EXCELth Inc Baton Rouge Behavioral Health Clinic. There, he and his students spend time together building their skills by participating in day-to-day operations. He says that being a supervisor is "a rewarding experience, a great way to give back, and such an honor.”

The Louisiana Mental Health Association's Fisher Project offers su***de follow-up and recovery support services. You can enroll or refer a patient to the Fisher Project by calling 225-960-6800. April is counseling awareness month! It's okay to ask for help when you are struggling mentally or emotionally, and counseling can often help you learn and build skills that lead to a better understanding of your mental health and how to help yourself.

We are starting a new therapy group on April 2nd for people who identify as LGBTQ+! This group will be focused on mental health and wellbeing, and each of the 6 sessions will have a specific topic or focus, starting with autonomy and eventually drawing to a close with self acceptance. Today is World Social Work Day! World Social Work Day is a day to reflect on the importance of social workers. Today, we celebrate achievements in social work and gather support for the vitality of social workers to individuals, communities and the world. This year's theme is "Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change", focusing on the transformative role social workers play in the nurturing and growth of both individuals and communities.
