Last night I responded to a client with a massage emergency. She was having immense pain in her shoulder going to to her elbow, and all of this coming from her neck.

Upon assessing, I realized I could barely touch her without her being in extreme pain. I couldn’t just use deep tissue techniques, or Swedish massage techniques, or just myofascial techniques . This was a hard case that required my full attention and years of education and care.

I first used light Myofascial techniques and then some lymphatic drainage techniques. Even then, I could hardly touch her and there was still a lot of pain present. Then I asked her if I could work on her energetic body, and move the energetic pain first- I used Reiki Healing for this. Finally I was getting somewhere! (I almost gave up!)

After I moved the energetic pain out of the body, I was able to do some real work relaxing all of the muscles in the neck and traps, then finally her elbow and arm.

Wow! After that she was in less pain and was feeling so much better.

When I say, I customize the massage session, this is what I mean. Techniques can vary and everyone is different and unique in what they present with.
I cannot just throw “deep tissue” massage at everyone and expect them to respond well.

This is where years of training and experience come in. I’m seeking the best outcome for my client- rather than staying stuck in a methodology

A groundbreaking discovery suggests that a simple face and neck massage could help the brain stay cleaner and healthier. Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have identified a network of tiny lymphatic vessels just beneath the skin in the face and neck of mice and monkeys. These vessels drain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which removes harmful proteins such as beta-amyloid, a major contributor to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Previously, scientists believed these vessels were located deep in the neck, making them hard to stimulate. But with special dyes and a new type of anesthesia, they found them much closer to the surface. To test their function, the team created a small device that gently stroked the animals’ faces and necks. Just one minute of this massage boosted CSF flow by nearly three times, with older mice showing fluid movement similar to young mice.

Early tests in monkeys reveal similar promise, and researchers have even identified comparable vessels in human cadavers. While more studies are needed, including trials in Alzheimer’s models, this gentle, non-invasive method could one day help people reduce brain waste buildup, potentially slowing age-related decline and lowering disease risk.

As I was siting there in my seat, two people walked into the isle and sat down next to me. 20 minutes later the speaker competition started taking place.
Every woman had a great speech as story. And then a former nurse started speaking. She started telling a story about one particular patient. A baby she had taken care of and loved that was in the NICU unit. It was years ago but she couldn’t get that baby out of her mind and always wondered how he was doing. She had it on her heart to contact the family for some time. Finally she picked up the phone and called. The mother of that precious baby boy in the NICU unit picked up the phone and she remembered that nurse. She started crying with emotion and said she believed her little boy, now grown man, was alive because of the love that one nurse showed her son.
Fast forward to now, those two women have become the best of friends, and that little baby boy, all of 3 lbs. when he was born, is now a healthy man with a wife and kids of his own.

And friends, those were the two people that sat next to me.

Moral of the story- never underestimate your impact and the impact that live has on someone.

Also, if someone is on your heart to reach out to, do it- no matter how nervous you are. You never know what can happen next. ✨
