Normal does not equal optimal

Time to rethink B12 sufficiency? New research suggests that so-called “normal” B12 levels might not be enough to protect brain health, especially with age. ⚠️

A study published in Annals of Neurology found that older adults with lower (but still normal) B12 levels had slower processing speeds and more brain lesions. Researchers are calling for updated recommendations and earlier intervention to help prevent cognitive decline.

This adds to the growing evidence that functional B12 insufficiency can impact the nervous system long before it shows up as anemia. For older adults (especially those with neurological symptoms), B12 supplementation might be worth considering even if blood levels look “fine.”

If you’re wondering whether myofunctional therapy might benefit you, here are some signs to look out for:

1️⃣Breathing & Sleep Issues
Mouth Breathing: Do you often breathe through your mouth instead of your nose? This can lead to various health issues, including sleep apnea.

Snoring or Sleep Apnea: Regular snoring or episodes of disrupted breathing during sleep may indicate underlying muscle dysfunction.

2️⃣. Jaw and Dental Problems
Frequent Cavities or Gum Disease: If you struggle with ongoing dental cavities &/or gingivitis, despite good hygiene practices, this could be a sign of improper oral function.

Malocclusion: Do you have dental crowding? This could be related to muscle dysfunction.

TMJ Discomfort: Jaw pain or clicking, especially when chewing or yawning, can signal the need for therapy.

3️⃣. Chewing and Swallowing Difficulties
Dysphagia: Experiencing difficulty chewing, swallowing, or choking on food may suggest dysfunctional oral muscle patterns.

Chewing Issues: Problems with effectively chewing food can also be a sign that myofunctional therapy could help.

4️⃣. Speech Difficulties
Articulation Issues: Struggling with specific sounds or speech clarity can indicate that muscle dysfunction is affecting your communication.

Delayed Speech Development: Children with delayed speech may benefit from addressing oral muscle function.

5️⃣ Facial Development Concerns
High, Narrow Palate: Physical features related to the shape of the mouth can impact oral function, indicating the need for myofunctional therapy.

Changes in Facial Aesthetics: An imbalanced facial appearance could be the result of oral & facial muscle dysfunction.

6️⃣. Posture and Headaches
Poor Posture: A forward head posture, or other postural issues, may be related to oral and facial muscle dysfunction.

Frequent Headaches: Tension headaches, particularly in the temples or neck, can sometimes be traced back to oral muscle dysfunction.

If you are thinking.. “Hmm..this sounds like me”, send us a message! We can assess your oral and facial muscle function to determine if therapy could be beneficial for you.

Better late than never!

Excessive added sugar is one of the biggest culprits of chronic disease. Now if they could also drop the food dyes banned in Europe already and MSG we’d really be on a roll.

The nearly 30 million kids who eat meals at schools each day in the United States will soon see some changes to the food they are served.

😎So fun! These kids loved moving!

Guess what? Most elementary kids I came across do not know how to jump rope. This is a fun exercise that uses hand eye coordination and burns lots of energy!

I wondered if anyone was researching this. More here: https://yle.fi/a/3-7198171
