For years, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) has been described as a connective tissue disorder.
But emerging research is beginning to tell a more complex story.
A recent proteomic study published in ImmunoHorizons analyzed protein expression patterns in individuals with hEDS and found something difficult to ignore:
• 43% of altered proteins were linked to the complement system
• 80% were associated with immune, inflammatory, or coagulation pathways
This suggests that what we are seeing may not be limited to structural instability alone.
There may also be measurable immune system involvement.
Not a theory.
Not anecdotal.
Biological signals.
What does this mean in real life?
For many patients, it may help explain patterns that have long felt disconnected:
• Chronic inflammation without clear cause
• Heightened sensitivity reactions
• Fluctuating symptoms that don’t follow a purely mechanical pattern
• Overlap with conditions like lipedema, MCAS, and dysautonomia

It begins to shift the lens from “isolated connective tissue disorder”
to something more systemic, more integrated, and more complex.
⚠️A careful note on interpretation:
‼️This was a small study, and it does not establish causation.
We do not yet know whether immune dysfunction is a driver, a downstream effect, or part of a broader network of dysfunction.
But it does give us something important:
A signal worth paying attention to.
At Lipedema Warrior Clinic, this is the layer we work within.
We do not approach these conditions as isolated diagnoses.
We look at:
• Immune system behavior
• Inflammatory pathways
• Metabolic regulation
• Hormonal signaling
• Lymphatic function
• Genetic and environmental contributors
Because for many women, the story is not one system failing.
It is multiple systems speaking at once, waiting to be understood together.
This is where care changes.
Not by chasing symptoms.
But by asking better questions.
Looking deeper.
And building a plan that reflects the full picture.
If you have felt like your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one box, there may be a reason.

🧭 The takeaway

Lipedema is not just a hormone problem.
It’s a hormone communication problem.

And when that communication breaks down:

The fat tissue changes
The inflammation builds
The connective tissue weakens
And the body stops responding the way it should

💬 If you’ve ever been told:

“Your hormones are normal”

But your body tells a different story…

You’re not imagining it. 👀
You may just need a deeper lens. 🔎

Hormones often influence lipedema progression.

A note about MCAS and Dr. Rodriguez ❤️‍🩹
MCAS is a complex and highly individualized condition. No two patients present the same, which is why effective care requires time, patience, and thoughtfully selected, personalized testing.

Dr. Rodriguez is a member of the MCAS Masterminds group, founded by Dr. Lawrence Afrin. This network includes over 700 clinicians dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of mast cell disorders.

When you work with Dr. Rodriguez, you benefit not only from her clinical expertise, but from the collective insight of a large, collaborative community focused on MCAS care.

There has never been more access to testing than there is right now.

Food sensitivity panels.
Gut testing.
Hormone testing.
DNA reports.

And on the surface, it can feel like you’re finally getting answers.

But here’s the part no one really talks about:

Getting data is not the same as getting direction.

Two people can run the exact same labs.

One hands you a list of foods to avoid.
The other connects the dots between your hormones, metabolism, inflammation, and symptoms… and builds a plan that actually changes what’s happening in your body.

Because symptoms rarely come from one place.

Fatigue, weight gain, swelling, pain, brain fog…
These are not isolated issues.

They are patterns.

And patterns require more than a single test.

They require:
• Clinical interpretation
• Medical oversight
• The ability to intervene when needed
• And a plan that evolves as your body changes

Testing has become easy to access.

Knowing what to do with it… is where everything changes.

At Lipedema Warrior Clinic, we don’t just run labs.

We help you understand what your body is trying to tell you
and guide you, step by step, toward real change.

If this resonates, you’re not alone.
And you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Glucose isn’t the enemy.
But poorly regulated glucose is.

Your body works hard to keep blood sugar in a tight range for a reason.

When glucose stays elevated over time, it can:

• Increase inflammation and oxidative stress
• Disrupt hormones
• Impact vascular and lymphatic health
• Drive fatigue, cravings, and metabolic dysfunction

This matters even more in conditions like lipedema, where inflammation and tissue changes are already present.

Here’s what most people miss:

It’s not about cutting carbs or following a random diet.

It’s about understanding how your body responds.

Some people clear glucose efficiently.
Others have genetic and metabolic differences that affect insulin signaling, glucose transport, and inflammatory response.

That’s why guessing fails.

At Lipedema Warrior Clinic, we don’t just hand you a device and send you on your way.

We connect your Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) directly to our clinic, allowing us to see your data in real time.

This means:

• We can identify patterns you may miss
• We can correlate food, stress, sleep, and symptoms
• We can guide adjustments with precision, not assumptions

We also integrate:

• Nutrigenomics
• Advanced metabolic testing

So your plan is built from your biology.

Because when you stabilize blood sugar in a way that works for your body…

Inflammation often calms.
Energy becomes more stable.
And your body starts working with you, not against you.
