This was going to be part of the “cancer awareness month” series but is my content not all about maintaining health to prevent diseases as such?! (It was a busy month anyways)

One crucial factor to know is how iodine can be EASILY displaced by the toxic sister elements fluoride, chlorine, and bromine.

These elements are pervasive in the average modern life:
🪥Fluoride from commercial toothpastes and municipal water systems
🏊Chlorine from municipal water and chlorinated pools
🍞Bromine from flours (even organic unless marketed as non-brominated), soft drinks, plastics, cans, jars, and personal care products.

When we have these in the system, iodine is displaced so many of our hormones are created with the wrong raw materials and results in complete hormonal disruption!

Not a fan of seafood? Your local health food store likely sells Kelp or Dulse flakes in the salt section. This is an easy, almost tasteless way to get it in. This is super cheap and effective.

My top recommended brands of iodine are extremely limited as it’s hard to find quality products that the body can recognize and utilize effectively:

Daylight Savings Time Ends Tonight! ⌛️

We are falling into standard time where the mornings will be lighter and the evenings will progressively become darker earlier through the winter solstice on December 21st.

Tonight, we get to enjoy an extra hour of sleep. Do not fight it. Allow your body to rest after the pure hustle and bustle of the past couple of months.

While this time change has much less correlation to negative health outcomes as the “spring forward” change in March, there is still room to royally screw up our circadian rhythms by pushing our bodies to stay up late into the evening regardless of the current light/dark cycles.

🌞Keep your light health in tact by embracing sunlight in the morning then mitigating artificial light at night - meaning getting to bed a bit sooner beginning NOW.

🔥This is the time to maximize melatonin secretion in the body through extra sleep, increased darkness, and even infrared light via fire or hot baths. This is how the body is able to regenerate during the stillness of winter and maintain health.

🍳The diet is meant to increasingly build in fat concentration and slowly phase out carbohydrates temporarily. We naturally gravitate toward meals that are warm and nourishing. Keep meal timing consistent day to day to reinforce the internal body clocks.

📉Push the body past its natural rhythm with imbalanced diet, excess artifical light, excessive work hours, minimal sleep… and expect to never reach your full potential and even become ill often. Illness is your body’s way of making you slow down when you don’t allow for it to happen.

⚖️Don’t worry, hard work may still be done but with the correct balance of rest and replenishment.

What a great conference weekend!!

Eyes Wide Open 4.0 closed out a chapter for the naturopathic community and it was the greatest honor to be part of it alongside some of the brightest minds.

Pictures are limited as I was trying to soak it in.

All of the speakers revealed some tough truths about today’s world, but we all learned that there is always a solution given to us if we look in the correct places. Oftentimes the solution is within per Cathy O’Brien’s wise words.

This is just the beginning for myself and these people are showing what’s possible. So many new ideas are flowing for the future.

Looking forward to providing a hand into healing the community and offering knowledge to those looking to listen.

Cancer Awareness Month Part II: Breakfast Edition

Having a appetite in the morning is a marker of health!

Many health gurus like to preach about fasting until lunch for optimal digestion, but the science behind circadian rhythms, hormonal cascades, and the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine disagree.

The body is primed for digestion upon waking in that 7-9am window. By eating breakfast, it is a signal of safety and abundance to the body.

If we do not have an appetite in that critical time or are even nauseous, this is a great indicator of high stress levels.

By not eating, we are only reinforcing to the body that we are in danger and to continue to pump out cortisol.

The body will prioritize making cortisol over other hormones like estrogen, testosterone, or thyroid hormone to help the body respond to the stressful environment. This is called the fight of flight response - but most of us are chronically in that mode and can’t get out of it!

If this isn’t taken care of eventually, hormonal imbalances only get worse and the rest of the body begins to suffer from a loss of minerals due to burning them off so quickly from stress.

To bring down AM cortisol levels:
✅ Limit artificial light + screens upon waking, keep phone screen on red mode
✅ Get natural light by stepping outside or opening a window and looking out
✅ Ease yourself into the day if you can - avoid logging into social media or checking emails until after you’ve had a few moments to yourself
✅ If having coffee, have a glass of water first and something to eat
✅ Find a small meal or food item that you can nibble on to realign your body rhythms until your appetite improves
✅ Avoid 5am cardio or intense workouts. If this is your only chance to do so, make sure to eat before and avoid stimulants. Get outside ASAP afterwards
