Evalyne's Garden Gate Tarot Blog

Evalyne's Garden Gate Tarot Blog I am a Tarot Interpreter who practices Reiki. I combine these energies to create readings that allow the soul to heal. Where will this journey take me next?

My journey into the world of Tarot began in 1976. My studies of the cards have led me down paths that i never would have thought to follow. As a member of the Tarosophy Tarot Association, I have learned much about the links between Tarot, Astrology and Alchemy. Anywhere I choose to go. The cards will tell me if I'm on the right path.

Your world revolves around what you have been taught. For the longest time these teachings have shape your reality. However, when growth requests a shift in your beliefs, some of which you may be questioning anyway, you hesitate to move forward into the unknown.

Are you too emotionally attached to the past? Are you overthinking the consequences of change? The cards call for you to think about where you want to go and create a plan to get there. To address the shadows that hinder your growth. Trust that your intuition will lead you past the discomfort and towards new opportunities

On this day of the longest night, we see the awakening of the Powers of Earth. The Daughter of the Mighty Ones looks to the Queen of the Throne of Fire for authority. What does this mean?

The Powers of Earth bring a focus towards money and possessions. Whether we are the one gifting or the one being gifted, the holiday season always revolves around not having enough time or money to show appreciation to everyone who brings joy into our lives. Instead of happiness we have stress because we are choosing to take on too much. The Ace of Pentacles reminds us that we are not the only ones giving or doing and that we should allow others the opportunity to participate.

The Empress, the Divine Mother, wants the best for her children, but sometimes forgets to ground herself in the realities of the real world by generously overindulging her gift giving. Which, by the way, adds to the stress of others by limiting the ability of family and friends to find unique gifts.

The Queen of the Thrones of Fire is there to remind us that no matter what situation is created by the Ace, we need to be adaptable to the circumstances that govern our resources. We can nurture without breaking the bank if we don’t try to dominate the holiday season by making the season a materialistic competition.

Four strong winds that blow lonely,
Seven seas that run high
All those things that don't change, come what may
If the good times are all gone,
and I'm bound for moving on
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way

Many times, we have to make the choice to leave. We leave a job; we leave a way of life. We leave our loved ones behind as we go in search of who knows what. The pressures that created the desire to leave can remain strong for days, months, and even years after the fact. How does one learn to let go?

The Tarot has two obvious cards that indicate leaving: the Six of Swords and the Eight of Cups. When these cards turn up in a reading, my interpretation is “the time has come to go. The primary difference I see when I look at these cards is the symbolism.”.

With the Eight of Cups, I perceive the cups to be empty. Oftentimes in a reading, this card comes up in a reading as message to leave a situation that the mind already knows is over, but the heart refuses to let go. The good times have ended. The joy is gone and now, one needs to address the reality of an unsatisfactory emotional attachment in order to move on.

Whereas, The Six of Swords feels more like a card of exodus, of searching for a better way. One knows that other options exist and the time has come to actively seek them.

These cards, if ignored, can lead to a Tower moment if the issues aren’t addressed. The other cards in the spread will give additional insights that can confirm one’s thoughts and feelings, teach one about the strengths and weakness of the options and resources available, and then help one release the attachments that prevent moving forward.

What is Shadow Work?

I was reading a newsletter from Scott Jeffrey that sheds some light (pun intended) on the concept of one’s personal shadow. The shadow consists of the parts of self that one shoves into the unconscious, the qualities that one no longer feels is a part of self.

Fun fact #1, the shadow can be repressed negative traits or repressed positive traits. The shadow forms from the choices made for conflict resolution throughout one’s life. We repress our needs and our desires in exchange for safety, acceptance, and security. And we create our conscious reality from what we have allowed ourselves to recognize as reality.

The unconscious mind holds onto those repressed parts of the persona, releasing the unwanted parts of the personality at inappropriate times. “That’s so not me” “He’s never like that” and so on. The unrecognized shadow can cause uncharacteristic behaviors, depression, low self-esteem, and even narcissism.

Fun Fact #2 We recognize our shadow in other people in a process called projection. We are angered by another person’s behavior, distorting the action into something more than what was intended. This can be a negative behavior that we don’t see in ourselves, like selfishness or a positive behavior we envy because we wish we had the guts to do the same thing.

Tarot can help work with the shadow. Each card depicts either an archetype or an action along with the helpful and hurtful consequences of the concept depicted by the card.

Are you curious as to what your shadow may be trying to tell you?
You can schedule an appointment or come in the store for a reading.
