VGS is thrilled to announce a fantastic *free* resource—Tracing Your Colonial Ancestors in Virginia – Maps and Tithables Lists of Botetourt County, 1770-1777. Authors Jim Jackson and Bill McCallister have generously provided this invaluable resource for anyone researching Botetourt ancestors. The book offers detailed maps correlated with tax records to reconstruct district boundaries and accurately define an ancestor's "neighborhood." View the book here: https://www.vgs.org/resources/online-resources/ (Note: The book is large so may take some time to load in the PDF browser.)

She grew up in a military family and as such has lived in many locations all over the world, growing her love and appreciation for other cultures and histories. Brielle also served a church mission in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil where she decided she wanted to focus her genealogical career on Brazil and Portugal. Since returning, Brielle has studied extensively and is currently interning at FamilySearch as a part of their Portuguese Tree Building research team.

Last evening SGS celebrated our volunteer leaders and their contributions they make to our organization and family history research everywhere. We are grateful to have so many dedicated volunteers, who work together to be sure we can continue offering a genealogy research library open to the public, classes, special interest groups, and lectures throughout the year. Thanks everyone! See you in 2026!

Hope to see you at the SGS Library in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood, Saturday January 10, from 10am to 1pm for our community-wide open house. You can stay for the lecture at 1pm!

Whatcom Genealogical Society

Monthly meetings are held the 2nd Monday of the month, with breaks for summer (July, August) and January.

Meetings are held at 2pm in the lower level of the Bellingham Elks Lodge, 710 Samish Way, Bellingham, Washington.

Visitors are always welcome, but we encourage folks to join our society -- it’s only $15/yr for 9+ hours of genealogy education and fun! And you don’t need to have family history in Whatcom County -- most of our members have research interests all over the United States and beyond.
