Donut you know how much we love our community? 🍩🚙

Our Targeted Case Managers spent the day delivering treats and tools! We shared our "Donut Analogy" guide, helping adults look past the "hole" (the surface behavior) to connect with the "whole" child (the deep needs underneath). Because the best way to help a child grow isn't just correcting them—it's connecting with them.

To wrap up Play Therapy Week, we’re highlighting a powerful breakthrough using the Oaklander Model. 🧸✨

Sometimes, a child may not want to talk or even be present in the counseling process. In this video, you’ll see how we move past those barriers by exploring polarities—helping the client recognize and balance conflicting parts of themselves, like "Calm" and "Grumpy."

Through this exercise, our client was able to:

Externalize the Struggle: He turned abstract, "stuck" feelings into concrete miniatures he could interact with.
Develop Self-Acceptance: By playing out both sides, he learned to own different parts of his experience without shame.
Reach a Self-Discovery Conclusion: He decided the dialogue and he did the healing. Ultimately, he decided it was okay to do things he didn't want to do (like leave the house) because he felt empowered.

In the Oaklander Model, we don't tell clients what to think; we give them the tools to find their own conclusions. This is how we build lasting resilience and a stronger sense of self!

As we continue celebrating International Play Therapy Week, we’re looking back at a powerful moment from when Lisa Parsons was a guest speaker at EKU!

In this video, Ms. Lisa demonstrates the "Scribble Art" technique. It’s incredible to watch how a few random lines on a page can unlock deep insights into a student’s internal world. Even as a guest speaker meeting these students for the first time, Lisa was able to help identify the challenges they were managing just by listening to the story behind the drawing.
