Every voice deserves a way to be heard 💬💙
This picture highlights a topic that is close to all of our hearts at PALs — access to AAC for ALL!

Access to AAC matters because communication is a basic human right—not a privilege. Offering visual impairment (VI)–accessible AAC options, like tactile symbols, high-contrast visuals, and auditory supports, ensures individuals with additional impairments still have meaningful ways to express their needs, thoughts, and personalities. When we expand AAC beyond one-size-fits-all, we create true inclusion and empower all individuals to connect with the world around them. 🌍✨

Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) can impact more than just speech—they may affect feeding, oral posture, and overall oral function. Early identification and targeted therapy can make a big difference in how children eat, speak, and grow with confidence. 🌟We are just as excited as our friend here to have added a swing to our therapy gym! 💫

A swing provides additional tools for our occupational therapists to provide vestibular input — which can allow a child to organize their minds and bodies and result in increased engagement for therapy sessions. Swinging can also be a powerful tool for our speech therapists to target goals for language, such as requesting, describing, and social skills!

What is the difference between pediatric speech and occupational therapy? We get asked this often! Sometimes there is some overlap, especially in regards to areas such as play skills and feeding. But today we are highlighting the general things that speech and OT work on to help patients grow 💛👇

It may be January, but at PALs, some of our patients have their mind on spring weather and activities! One of our friends was working on so many different language skills during this session while building a garden! Read more below on how activities like this can pair well with work in language and AAC system use ⬇️

🌱 Building a garden through pretend play is more than just fun—it’s powerful language learning!
When children use an AAC system during pretend play, they get meaningful chances to practice real communication skills. Planting flowers, watering veggies, and “growing” a garden helps kids work on requesting, commenting, turn-taking, and expanding vocabulary—all in a playful, low-pressure way.
Pretend play gives AAC users a reason to communicate, explore new words, and build confidence while their imagination blossoms 💬🌼

Today we’re wishing a heartfelt goodbye to one of our speech therapists, Ms. Lylen Fisher, as she moves to be closer to family!

We will miss her kind spirit and positive energy in the office and we’re thankful for the lasting impact she has made on our clinic, our families, and — most importantly — our kids. 💛 We’re so grateful for the time we shared and wish her nothing but success in her next chapter!
