Simon Williamson Clinic has COVID-19 testing! We have quick and easy drive-through testing available to anyone who needs it. Testing is vital to keep people safe and healthy — it allows for contact tracing and navigating isolation requirements. The test can detect COVID-19 in both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals.
-
Curious about who needs a test? The CDC recommends the following people get tested:
* Individuals who are symptomatic (fever > 100.5 degrees F, sore throat, cough, etc.), especially if you (or others in the home) are unable to safely isolate at home for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms, or if you live with someone who is at high risk of severe illness, such as an elderly relative or someone with chronic health problems. If your test is negative, it will likely facilitate getting you back to daycare or work in a timely manner.
* Individuals who have been exposed to someone who is COVID-19 positive. The CDC defines “exposure” as being within 6 feet of someone for 15 or more minutes. Remember, if you were exposed but asymptomatic, you still need a test!
-
Our test has a turnaround time of about 24-36 hours. We do not repeat testing after illness resolves, because the test can stay positive (even though you are not contagious) for up to 3 months. Keep your loved ones, classmates, and coworkers safe by getting tested! Call us at (205) 206-8480 if you have questions or would like to arrange a test.

Meet Jasmine! She is the newest addition to our crew ☺️, and just joined us in August. She is a Registered Nurse, and is helping out with triaging patients, running tests, assisting with procedures, administering vaccines, and any other odd jobs she comes across. We are so happy to welcome her to the team! She has been a nurse for 9 years (!), used to work in pediatric hematology/oncology, and is in school to become a certified nurse midwife.
-
Outside of work, she loves hanging out with her 16 month old daughter. She is super creative and enjoys painting, crafting on her Cricut, reading, and if she has time, playing Sims!

Meet Tiffanie! Tiffanie is another one of our Medical Assistants who works mostly with Dr. Elmer. You may see her giving shots, checking vital signs, giving out stickers, or making appointments. Most importantly, she keeps everyone laughing with her fun sense of humor!
-
Tiffanie has been working at Simon Williamson Clinic for 1 year. She was actually a patient of Dr. Elmer’s as a kid before working here! In her free time, she fosters puppies from the Humane Society and enjoys camping and weekends at the lake. She lost her dad to prostate cancer, and as a tribute to him, she has a tradition of donating her hair for cancer patients every two years.

Mykah has worked at Simon Williamson Clinic for almost 10 months and is a vital part of our team! Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 18 years and three kids. She loves to travel and her favorite things are snack foods (especially 🍪 and 🍰) and baby goats (see picture #2)!

Happy Black Breastfeeding Week! This week is all about bringing awareness to the unique challenges that face Black mothers and celebrating all of the Black breastfeeding mommas out there!

We can trace many diseases that disproportionately affect the Black community back to lower rates of breastfeeding as infants. Black women have the lowest rate of initiating breastfeeding, fewer Black babies are likely to continue breastfeeding to the recommended 6 months, and more Black infants’ feeds will have been supplemented with formula at the second day of life when compared to white infants. These disparities feed into lifelong health, and thus breastfeeding disparities ARE health disparities. Reasons behind these differences are complex and are rooted in generations of trauma, misinformation, and stigma.

Amazingly, the CDC estimates that increasing breastfeeding rates among Black women could reduce Black infant mortality by 50%! This is a vital initiative, and it’s one that we take very seriously at Simon Williamson Clinic.

We are champions of breastfeeding and would love to talk to you more if you have any questions!
