Hello friends. Nick will be talking at the PA Tourettes Syndrome Alliance virtual retreat about holistic self care for TS. Two days left before registration closes! Link in the comments.

"So many of us with TS share a similar understanding of the journied experience. Between the rituals of OCD, the life-altering mindsets of the deepest depressions and the most destructive rage meltdowns, not to mention the miserably incessant nature of tics, the comminity at large has come to the fair understanding that living at all means living in the embodiment of self-care... or in the self-identifying of affliction and pathology.

We will discuss what it means to create sanctuary in our lives and the lives of those most dear to us, becasue it is in our space of sanctuary and self-tending that we soften the impact of our worst symptoms.

I was diagnosed with Tourettes and multiple comorbidities as a child. After spending two decades sifting through all the BS, working under mentorship with doctors, specialists, and masters from around the world, drawing from an education in Chinese medicine, and experientially applying all the fruit of what has been learned and practiced... I only want to share it all with you.

This is my life's work. We have one hour, and we'll do the best we can. It's an honour to be here with you.

Three things I wish my parents knew when I was growing up with

1. Touretts isn't caused by a chemical imbalance. Tourettes is the end product of unregulated inflammatory cascades in the brain and nervous system.

2. My parents' own trauma impacted my symptoms. Trauma is hereditary, and trauma physically changes the structure of the brain. This can cause the inflammatory positive feedback loops in the brain and nervous system.

3. Nothing needs "fixing." I was never broken. The mindset of "I need to fix this" will inspire self-hate in anyone growing up with tourettes.

Let's simplify and get consistent with what works. doesn't have to be the confusing hell it's often painted as.

I learned the hard way that what I eat will make my symptoms better or worse. There is no exception.
