2.14.18 (opening day)-1.29.26 (last clinic day)
1.31.26 (every HH item removed and keys handed over to Landlordđ)
I remember the first day of clinic in the 407 DPC, it was a bright, sunny Valentineâs Day of 2018. I wore pink to celebrate the holiday and I had a finger painting from my youngest son (at the time), Hank, displayed on my desk. We celebrated that day with cookies and cupcakes PLUS âď¸ coffee. I was full of PRIDE and held a true sense of accomplishment after a lot of HARD WORK and GRIT to make the long awaited accomplishment aâŚREALITY.
We renovated the 407 into a home-like, cozy clinic, so we could offer the âfeeling of familyâ when every patient and staff member walked through the doors. We took âfamily photosâ aka pictures under the silver âhealthy humanâ sign in the front lobbyâŚwith every new Team member, as well as patients occasionally as well.
Jeremy and I spent countless hours (especially man hours/labor for JB) in that tiny clinic and put my decorating skills to work as well.
Year after year, week after week, I sat in patient rooms, performed exams and procedures, conversed/educated/laughed with and more⌠at the family-based HH. It was a life time commitment, with time spent away from my own family to perform the skills God blessed me with and follow the destined path he honored me with. Our HH focus: VALUES, such as the Physician/Provider and Patient relationship, 1-on-1 Nursing care and attention, that our community deserved and continues to be thankful for.
This âlabor of loveâ or my â5th childâ was built and continues to function day after day (despite the address it is located at, the HH has the same â¤ď¸ behind it, no matter where the building/clinic stands) with ALL of the help from my committed, loving, also hard-working, and forever supportive FAMILY that includes my HUSBAND that also carries the same
small-town values that I do, plus all 4 of my sons.
They each have played there very own role at the Healthy Human over the years:
Jackson (my oldest, whom used to call the 407, âmy hospitalâ every time we drove by and also rode with me across the Midwest on his Fall break in 2017, as we researched DPC and bought antiques/memorabilia along the way),
Tucker (the forever kind and caring, strong and brilliant next oldest son that stays up with me as I work, helps his father and I haul/carry, help at the house and more),
Hank (always willing to run errands for the clinic, keep me company, make me laugh and stay light hearted, plus has been my true âlife lineâ at the most important times), and last but not least, Rex (the youngest, our COVID baby, and the âmost knownâ Beckenhauer since he was born while the HH was well underway, and per his prior sitter, Cola GraceâŚhe âIS the Healthy Humanâ đ).
My list goes on and on when compiling the names of the HH never-ending support system, they ALL carry my â¤ď¸ and Soul, and make the HH possible DAY after DAYâŚ
-the AMAZING TEAM/Staff from medical to non-medical coworkers (2018-Current)âŚwithout them, we would not TRULY have the âHealthy Humanâ VIBE that we pride ourselves onâŚquality care, comfort and caring, with such a casual feel. Medicine should not be âstaleââŚrigidâŚor heartless. Lead with your Heart. â¤ď¸
Patients should be willing to come to the doctor, NOT scared of it. First step in healing, getting them through the doors đĽ°
Also, HUGE thanks to the following:
-My parents, sister, and extended family
-Community members of both Ashland & Blair,
-And last but not least, the HH PATIENTSâŚmostly from my start in Blair in 2011 and many newcomers over the years.
This weekend we packed the last of the items remaining in the 407 DPC, and moved them to the new Main Street clinic of Blair and HH TEAM/Patient home: 1659 Washington Street.
We will utilize the 1st and 2nd floor for the DPC clinic and the MedAesthetics & Skincare patients will be in the âdowntown loftâ of the clinic.
We will continue to build out the 1st floor as we figure out the exact needs of the patient and staff. We appreciate the patience, and ask for grace, as we transition this building into our new home over 2026.
Although 2.2.26 marks a NEW âHH Horizonâthat we embark upon, we look forward to being ALL together again under one roof to carry on that âHH Vibe.â Change leads to growth for everyone, in mind/body/spirit, and we look forward to making our new âfamily-centeredâ home, although we may be doing what we do BEST under new roof, we WILL get this building suited to us ALL. And we will do it as an âHH Family.â
My fortune cookie yesterday as we embarked upon another night of building prep: Goodness is the only investment that never fails, lucky number: 2 (Opening Day 2.2.26).
