You’re working hard to eat better… but food labels can be so confusing. Here are 3 ingredients I watch for:

Artificial Sweeteners like sucralose and aspartame can disrupt gut health and blood sugar.

Soy ingredients like soy protein isolate are highly processed and can mess with your hormones.

Vegetable oils like canola and soybean are inflammatory

We’ll be unpacking how to spot these and more inside Align this month during our “Decode Your Labels” series.

Our first group call is Tuesday, Nov 4 at 6pm!

Prevention as Empowerment

We’re surrounded by messages that tell us cancer is random or that we’re powerless against it.

But the truth? We have more influence than we think.

• Prevention is not a guarantee—but it’s powerful.

• It’s about creating a life that supports your body’s natural ability to stay well.

• And it starts with knowing what actually matters.

🎁 I created a free resource for you:
“5 Things Everyone Needs to Know About Cancer”
✨ These are the things I wish everyone was told early on.

Don’t give up on all your healthy habits over the next two weeks!

Even if your routine looks a little different, now is the time to lean into those habits you’ve created over the last year:

- keep drinking your water (with electrolytes!)

- prioritize protein and fat at each meal (especially breakfast)

- find some time for daily movement (even if it’s only 10 minutes)

- make sleep a priority (7-8 hours minimum, yes, even during the holidays)

- get away from the hustle and bustle for a few minutes of quiet (actual quiet, not scrolling…)

- and most importantly, relax and enjoy!

Don’t wait for January 1 to start again. Keep going!

Salad dressings are typically made with inflammatory seed oils (usually soybean oil), unnecessary sugar, and even food dyes.

Instead, look for a dressing made with avocado oil or olive oil. Here are a few of my favorite options!

Or make your own! Check out ’s homemade ranch recipe.

Earlier this week we talked about which flours to avoid and which ones to choose instead. So what about pasta? These are a few of our favorite gluten-free swaps. No need to sacrifice pasta night! Try these instead and your family may not even know the difference 😉

Next in our Label Made Simple: Flour.

As a general rule, it’s a great idea to avoid gluten and gluten containing flours. (Read the book Wheat Belly if you want a deep dive on gluten and why it’s not the same as it used to be).

Once again, I’m not saying to NEVER eat gluten (unless you have a sensitivity). I love a good slice of pizza once in a while! But as a general rule, I avoid gluten when I can.

And we’ve learned through lots of trial and error that it’s easier to start with a recipe specifically created for these gluten-free flours vs trying to switch up your favorite family recipe. A few of my favorite accounts for recipes are and

Let’s dive into sweeteners first.

One of the key numbers I look at on a food label is the added sugars. If there are added sugars (meaning not from fruits or vegetables), I go to the ingredient list.

When looking at the ingredient list, here’s a few of the sweeteners you’ll want to watch out for and avoid. If the added sugars are coming from something like honey or maple syrup, I aim for less than 5g of sugar per serving.

Make sure you save this post for future reference and share it so others can learn!

This is one of the statements I hear the most as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner - Labels are so confusing, I don’t know what to buy!

I’m here to help! Over the next few weeks we’re going to dive into what ingredients to avoid and which ones to choose instead.

But first, let’s start with the basics:

- Stop counting calories (unless you’re counting to make sure you’re eating enough)!

- The only 2 things I watch for on a nutritional label are the ingredients and the added sugars.
Make sure you’re following me for more details on both coming soon!

What label reading questions do you have?
