movement should feel joyful, not like a punishment. the eating disorder takes movement into unhealthy territory before you know it.

swipe to see 7 signs it might be time to rethink your relationship with exercise.

to those in recovery: if this hits home, you’re not alone—for now, it’s not safe for you to move your body, but one day it will be. And when it is, your team will help you work toward a healthy relationship with movement.

to supporters: keep an eye out for these signs and bring it to your treatment team’s attention.

food rules can feel like a tight leash—telling you what, when, and how much, until eating’s a chore instead of a choice.

But food freedom? That’s the exhale you’ve been waiting for. To those recovering: challenge your eating disorder’s food rules—you’re stronger than your ED.

To the supporters: sit with your young person, eat with them, and show them that freedom’s not just possible, it’s delicious.

hey, you—yes, YOU, the incredible person reading this, and maybe the amazing supporter by your side too. 💛

we see you. we know that eating disorder brain’ can be so loud sometimes—whispering about numbers, pushing comparisons, making you feel like your worth fits on a scale.

it’s hard. it’s isolating. and honestly? it can feel like it’s never going to quiet down.

if that’s where you’re at right now, take a second to just breathe with me—we’re in this together.

here’s something I want you to hear: that voice? It’s not YOU. there’s another part inside—a ‘nourished brain’ that’s fighting to break through. it’s the part that remembers food can be fun, that your body deserves kindness, and that you’re so much more than what those thoughts tell you.

it’s there, even if doesn’t feel like it right now, and it’s worth rooting for.

to the supporters out there: you’re warriors. every single day you keep going is proof of that. recovery isn’t flipping a switch—it’s more like planting a little seed and watering it with small, brave moments. your love, your patience—it’s making a difference, even when it’s hard to see.

you’ve got this—we’ve got this—and you’re not alone on this road. 🫶

your ED thoughts are not facts. 💭🚫

When that inner critic starts getting loud, here are three ways to challenge it:
1️⃣ call it out – name it for what it is: an ED thought, not your truth.
2️⃣ do the opposite – take one small action that goes against the disordered voice.
3️⃣ talk to yourself like a friend – you deserve the same kindness you’d give someone else.

recovery happens in small moments like these. 🤎

Once your adolescent starts doing better, you may feel a strong desire to quickly get them back to some sense of “normal” eating.

This can take longer than you think. Transitioning from a structured meal plan to normalized eating is a gradual process that doesn’t happen overnight. Sometimes it doesn’t even happen immediately after weight restoration—the process can feel painfully long and frustrating to both you and your young person.

While we know it’s hard, try not to rush the recovery process and allow time for your adolescent’s body and mind to heal before expecting that they can feed themselves and do it well.

eating is not negotiable. your body needs fuel so you have to energy you need to be well, feel good, and do the things you love.

it doesn’t matter what kind of eating disorder you have, you have to eat. and if you’re not eating, you can’t do the things you want to do. not because it’s a punishment, not because your treatment team is mean, but because your body doesn’t have the energy it needs for you to safely go to school, work, or hang out with your friends.

if you’re a patient and you’re struggling to finish 100% of your meals and snacks, be honest with your supporters and your treatment team, because what we don’t know we can’t help with.

if you’re a supporter and you’re struggling with parents in charge or any other aspect of supporting your adolescent through recovery, reach out. talk to your treatment team in the space. call us. send an email.

we know eating disorder recovery is hard, and we’re here to make it easier.
