Last night two of our finest were honored during the Village Council Meeting. First, Meri Skilliter was recognized for 35 years of Volunteer Service to Bluffton EMS. During that time she served the community as an Advanced EMT and also an instructor to our EMS providers, ensuring our crews stayed current with protocols and procedures. We wish her well in her future endeavors!
Jan Basinger was then honored. Jan has been an Advanced EMT in Bluffton for the past 33 years, with the last 19 of those heading our squad as Chief. Although our department has transitioned from Volunteer to full time Jan continues to operate as our Assistant Chief, filling vacant shifts, providing guidance and remaining a pivotal and respected member of our department.

At 7:00pm tonight (1/25/2026), Allen County will be under a Level 3 Roadway Warning
————————
Allen County Residents,

I have spoken with Allen County Engineer Brian Rhodes and Road Superintendent Darren Leis. Their crews have worked tirelessly around the clock to clear roadways, and I want to sincerely thank them for their dedication and hard work during this severe winter storm. However, with a storm of this magnitude, maintaining clear roads has become increasingly difficult. In the coming hours, road crews will be forced to suspend operations, and continued snowfall will quickly cover roadways throughout Allen County.

Therefore, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, a Level 3 Roadway Warning will be issued for Allen County.

Roadways are snow-covered, and many are impassable. Residents should only travel in emergency or essential situations and are urged to use extreme caution. Employers are encouraged to delay or adjust start times for third- and first-shift employees where applicable.

This Level 3 Roadway Warning will remain in effect until late morning on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please join me in thanking our road crews for their continued efforts to keep Allen County safe.

Sincerely,
Matthew B. Treglia
Allen County Sheriff

2025 has been the year of change for Bluffton EMS
First, a look at the numbers.
742 - Calls for service
474 - patients transported
124 - Fire calls
93 - patient transfers
35 - Motor Vehicle Accidents
14 - Special events
34 - Calls for Mutual Aid (assistance to surrounding agencies)

Thanks to the amazing YES vote from the community on last year's levy, Bluffton EMS was able to make the transition from volunteer to full-time
That means
1. our station is now staffed at all times with two EMS providers. This includes 4 Paramedics and three Basic EMTs who are currently training to become Paramedics
2. There are two additional EMTs "on call" in the community who assist with EMS calls, help when we have two calls at a time and conduct hospital to hospital transfers.
3. Bluffton EMS currently has two fully functional ambulances and an Echo unit
4. Our average response time is now 63 seconds
4. The station has been renovated into living quarters, complete with kitchen/living/training area and bedrooms. Look for Open House information to be shared later this spring!

We look forward to expanding our involvement in the community in the upcoming year and welcome feedback/suggestions on how we can better serve you.
