What If Your Body Remembers What Your Mind Cannot?
Have you been living with mysterious physical symptoms that no doctor can explain? Maybe you've done everything right — seen the specialists, tried the treatments, followed the protocols — and yet the pain or dysfunction still lingers, disrupting your work, your relationships, your ability to feel like yourself.
You're not alone. Many people find themselves stuck in this confusing place: where the body hurts, but no one can quite tell you why.
In the field of somatic healing, we recognize that not all suffering can be traced to a visible injury or illness. Sometimes, the body holds onto stress, trauma, or unprocessed emotion in ways that medical scans and lab tests can’t detect. The pain is real — but its source may be deeper than the physical.
You might have heard the phrase, "The body keeps the score." This idea, made popular by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, suggests that trauma is not just a mental memory — it's a bodily imprint. When we go through something overwhelming and our body’s natural defenses (fight, flight, freeze) are blocked or incomplete, that activation doesn’t disappear. It gets stored — sometimes for years — in muscles, tissues, and nervous system responses.
That means symptoms like spasms, tightness, chronic tension, or even pain that seems to make no medical sense might actually be the body’s way of communicating something unresolved.
Somatic healing doesn’t rely on reliving your past or retelling every difficult story. In fact, you don’t even need to remember what happened. This work focuses on teaching people how to feel safe in their body, how to listen to its signals, and how to reestablish trust with themselves through slow, mindful, body-based practices.
Here’s how it’s different from conventional therapy or medical care:
- Client-led and empowering: Nothing happens to you. You’re offered a menu of options, and you choose what feels right. We move at your pace, never overriding your "no" or pushing through discomfort.
- No diagnosis, no fixing: You’re not a problem to be solved. Your body’s responses — even the difficult ones — make sense in context. Together, we learn what that context might be and how to shift it.
- Experiential, not just talk: Instead of analyzing everything with your thinking mind, we help you experience change in real time. That might mean breathwork, guided movement, boundaries practice, or even being in safe contact with your own pleasure, if appropriate.
- A holistic lens: We explore how cultural conditioning, family patterns, and unspoken beliefs may be shaping your body’s responses — and how to find your way back to who you really are beneath all of that.
Many of the people I work with come to me as a “last resort.” They've tried everything else. And while somatic healing might seem unconventional, that’s exactly what makes it powerful when conventional approaches have fallen short.
So if your symptoms feel mysterious or "incurable"... if your body is speaking in pain and no one seems to be listening... maybe it’s time to try listening in a new way.
You don’t have to do this alone. There is a path forward — one that respects your autonomy, centers your experience, and helps you return to yourself.
