Whew, it's been a hot minute (month 😳) since my last update! Christmas and January really took it out of me, but I'm back! And I've got a new shop mascot - I'll share more on him later. For now, I've just dropped into The Hand-Crafty Boutique and swapped Christmas for a few Valentines, St. Patrick's and even Easter goodies. I've been on a hat making kick lately - pulling out the hook and yarn whenever I have a down moment. Wonder if my former meteorologist self is trying to tell me it's going to be a cold winter??

Hanging out at the Boutique for a few hours today and I decided to work on some crochet projects. Anyone else hate the yarn vomit that comes with starting a new skein? I keep telling myself that I should wind it into a ball before starting, but I never do. 🤣

I started engraving the year on beads last year and had a pretty good system, but I knew there was a more efficient way. Set up this jig system and now I can engrave 77 beads in just a few minutes. These make great additions to ornaments and stocking taqs.

Today I tried something I've been wanting to do for a long time - converting handwriting (in these two instances, hand-written recipes) into engravable images and then engraving them on cutting boards. One was pretty easy - the contrast was good; the other was a bit more tricky. They turned out better than I could have anticipated! Here's a sneak peek - let's see if anyone recognizes any of the handwriting. 😍

It started with a hat.

Our story all started with a hat. Yes, just a simple hat.

In the early fall of 2017, I found a cute pattern for an aviator hat to make for my nephew (his dad/my brother is a pilot by profession) for Christmas that year, and when I was finished, I was so thrilled with how it turned out ... but I couldn't post it to my own page, as they would certainly see it and spoil the surprise, so I posted photos to the local moms group ... someone asked me to make one for their kiddo...

...and the wheels in my head started turning... a minion hat for Halloween for my daughter, Minnie Mouse hats for my girls and niece to announce our upcoming Disney vaca, Mickey Mouse hats for a friend, preemie hats to donate to a local hospital ... and here I am.

Then early in the spring of 2018, I pulled my then six year old Cricut machine out of the basement, dusted the cobwebs off, and fired it back up. I quickly realized that, 1. I love it, and 2. the machine I had was extremely limiting as to what I am able to cut. So... what does anyone do then? Upgrade, of course! I can make custom vinyl decals (permanent or temporary), custom wall decor, iron-on t-shirts or bags, and also a variety of paper crafts - greeting cards and the like. I have a fairly decent stash of supplies, so chances are I can get working on your request right away.
