Foundation Respect Children

Foundation Respect Children This foundation is aimed to raise awareness through yearly campaigns against Child Abuse on Bonaire. We raise funds to make our campaigns reach the public

This project is aimed at mobilizing community leadership to make a commitment with the view to prevent and respond to violence, exploitation, and abuse against children including commercial exploitation, child trafficking, child labor, and harmful traditional practices such as early marriages or incest. Specifically the project intended to achieve the following:
• To disseminate “Stop Child Abuse” campaign messages to the general public through drama and material distribution.
• Education of the child and parent by distribution of the “Child Rights Passport” (CRP) in the hospital – since birth the parents should know about children’s rights
• To put in place and strengthen child protection committees and train local civic educators through workshops and lectures
• To establish financial child rights by achieving the child support benefits equal to children in the Netherlands

The issues to be tackled:
Aimed for children in Bonaire who have low status and low self-respect, who are regularly and repeatedly suffer violence, exploitation, abuse, child labor, and harmful traditional practices such as early marriages or be allowed to have relationships with much older men when in early teenage years. These are unfortunately widespread problems, occurring globally, however they are particularly bad in Bonaire as a result of long-held traditional beliefs, attitudes which indicate 'the child comes last'. older man or family do not see the harm being done to the child by their conduct AND financial stress due to low incomes. It is against this background that ‘Fundashon Respeta Mucha is taking action. This sort of mentality is under the accepted moral standards and the way of thinking: ‘Do not involve yourselves in our business’ so the child abuse go on is not acceptable and will be fought against to create high moral standards to protect the children rights and dignity for the children. Our aim is also for children to have higher self-esteem and are fully aware of their own rights. Indirect Education:
From a holistic point of view ‘Fundashon Respeta Mucha’ will talk about HIV/ AIDS and gender discrimination

25 years ago the world made a promise to children: that we would do everything in our power to protect and promote their rights to survive and thrive, to learn and grow, to make their voices heard and to reach their full potential. In spite of the overall gains, there are many children who have fallen even further behind.

Image many have never heard about this convention or what it is about! It doesn't matter because the principles are simple - let's join force and do a bit more for our own children, for our neighbour's, our co-workers', or those you have seen on the street, in the hospital, at the park. Let's make the world a safe, clean and happy place for these children. Because a happy child is the most valuable asset to the society!

Child abuse affects children of every age, race, and income level. It often takes place in the home and comes from a person the child (sadly) knows and trusts—a parent, relative, babysitter, or friend of the family.

Often abusers are ordinary people caught in stressful situations: young mothers and fathers unprepared for the responsibilities of raising a child; overwhelmed single parents with no support system; families placed under great stress by poverty, divorce, or sickness; parents with alcohol or drug problems.

A first step in helping or getting help for an abused or neglected child is to identify the signs and symptoms of abuse. There are four major types of child maltreatment: neglect, physical abuse, s*xual abuse, and emotional abuse.

This week we will post possible symptoms of the four major types of child maltreatment.

The sad truth

Report to UN suggests more die violently at home than on battlefield, leading to trillions of lost economic activity.

Many people are afraid of reporting child abuse. They think, "I don't want the person I reported to know," or, "I'm afraid it will come back to haunt me," or, "it's not my business." Ironically, if you asked people if they should help if seeing a nearby car accident, most will say yes. But in a case of suspected child abuse, that thinking may be different. Why? Because of prevalent attitudes that someone else's children are either "their responsibility" or "their property."
Without aware adults, some children might never receive help. Be an advocate for children by knowing the signs of abuse and reporting child abuse. Don't be the person that regrets doing nothing after the damage is done. You know you can make a difference by stepping up.
