Here’s the thing. It could be stress… but there is a lot you can do to support your nervous system (outside of just removing your stress… because we know that’s not going to happen).
When you’re under a lot of stress your body shifts into a fight or flight mode. You have less blood flow going towards digestion, your stomach acid decreases, and your gastric motility actually slows down. So yah.. it’s a gut thing now!
A constant state of stress actually keeps your gut and brain from communicating properly. Signals that tell your stomach to release stomach acid and your pancreas to release digestive enzymes stop functioning properly.
Here comes the bloating, constipation, reflux, and diarrhea!
Healing your gut might not look like a few minutes of meditation a day or some talk therapy to reduce stress. You might actually need to assess your entire routine and SLOW DOWN so you can finally shift into a rest and guest state.
