It’s National Sleep Awareness Week, and the most important thing I can put in front of you isn’t a tip. It’s a framework.

Nobody hands you a system when you bring a baby home. Most parents are just getting through the night, and even if they are tracking sleep, they don’t know how to analyze the data.

That’s the gap.

The sleep tank is how I think about it. Day sleep + night sleep − night wakings, averaged over 7 days. That number tells you where your child actually is. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine gives us a recommended healthy range by age:

12–16 hours for infants

11–14 for toddlers

10–13 for preschoolers

9–12 for school-age kids

Last week I talked about how normal baby sleep has a 4-hour range, and how most parents have never been told that. Instead, most families find themselves caught up in wake windows that work for some and fail miserably for others – because they aren’t based on your child’s individual needs (the amount of sleep they need to fill their tanks!).

Once you’re able to calculate the average amount of sleep your child is getting (and able to achieve!), you’ll have more realistic expectations of what to expect from them. You’ll also be able to disperse that sleep between day and nighttime.

My FREE 24-Hour Sleep Guide walks you through how to determine your child’s needs, and how to disperse that sleep in a healthy way for consistency.

Because nobody gives you one.

Not at the hospital. Not at the pediatrician. Not in the parenting books that were written for an average baby, which, by the way, is not your baby.

You’ve been doing your best with incomplete information. That’s not a character flaw, that’s just the situation.

The handbook exists, it just starts with your child’s specific sleep needs, not someone else’s schedule, method, or success story.

Learn how to use your child’s real sleep data to create your baby’s personalized scheduling handbook.

Normal baby sleep has a 4-hour range. Most parents have never been told that. It changes everything. 👇

The AAP recommends 12–16 hours of sleep per 24-hour period for infants.

That means a baby who needs 12 hours requires a completely different schedule than one who needs 16. (One needs wake windows that amount to 12 hours, the other only needs 8 hours of awake time!)

But almost every sleep schedule you’ll find online was built for an average baby, not yours specifically.

Swipe to see what happens when the schedule doesn’t match your child’s actual sleep needs, and what to do instead.

Save this if you’ve ever wondered why your baby fights sleep even when you’re doing everything “right.”

And grab the free 24-Hour Sleep Guide in my bio — it walks you through exactly how to figure out YOUR child’s number. 🔗

Spring forward is next Sunday, March 8 — and your child’s sleep will be fine. 😴

No, you don’t need to start adjusting bedtime two weeks in advance.

No, you don’t need to split the difference for a month.

Supporting your newborn’s sleep can feel confusing.

They’re noisy, they move a lot, their eyes may flutter open. They make sounds that make you think they’re awake when they might still be sleeping.

Newborns only have two sleep stages, and they enter and exit sleep in active sleep. That’s why pausing before stepping in can make such a difference!

Things to remember:

Newborns are loud sleepers
Pause and make sure your baby isn’t simply in active sleep
See if you can support cribside before fully picking up - sometimes very light assistance is enough to help them move into the next sleep cycle.

And always remember — if your newborn is crying, respond!

This isn’t sleep training.
This is learning your baby’s behavior and helping them feel comfortable in a safe sleep environment.

Save this for those moments when you feel like you don’t know what to do or what to try. And remember, newborn sleep is erratic!

You can try this for one nap, or at the start of the night. There are no rules. Whatever works for you and your baby, is what works.

If the newborn stage feels overwhelming, you’re not alone.

In addition to sleep support, I’m a certified perinatal behavioral health coach. Did you know that broken sleep can impact your mental health, too? Together, we can come up with strategies to navigate ever-changing newborn sleep while also attending to your mental wellness.

Hi, I’m Arielle. If you’re new here, I’m really glad you’re here!

I’m a certified pediatric sleep consultant and perinatal behavioral health coach. For the past 10 years, I’ve helped more than 1,000 families get the rest they need to feel like themselves again.

I believe every family deserves restorative sleep. Not perfect sleep. Not trending advice. Real sleep that fits your child, your needs, and your life.

I’m an extrovert, an empath, and an Enneagram 2. The helper through and through.

I’m also a total sleep geek. I love digging into the data and figuring out each child’s true 24-hour sleep needs. When the schedule matches what a child actually needs, everything gets easier.

I care deeply about the connection between sleep and mental health, especially for parents who are running on empty. (Been there - that’s how I got into this business!)

Outside of work, I treasure time with my family and friends more than anything. And when I need a reset, you’ll find me at the ocean. Any season. Any weather.

If you’re exhausted and not sure where to start, you’re in the right place.
