The first episode of Season 2 of podcast is out! We’re talking about how (a word I dislike 😒) is offering new and potentially helpful options when it comes to tracking your fertility and your period. We go over the pros and cons of digital contraceptives and period predictors and also touch on how the latest dietary recommendations encourage us to ignore our intuition and continue outsourcing . Fun fact: Potatoes and bananas aren’t the only ways you can get potassium. Winter squash is a great source as well. Root vegetables are both grounding and contractive, so if you’re feeling a bit scattered and overwhelmed due to the seasonal transition (and, well, the rollercoaster that is 2020), this soup may feel like a soft and nurturing hug.

As much as I am loathe to admit it, fall is nearly here. The final days of summer keep alternating hot and cool, and this morning I find myself with fuzzy socks on my feat, hot tea in my hand,...READ MORE

In my nutrition practice, the approach I use is based on intuition, rather than counting calories and logging every last teaspoon of food into an app that determines your needs with an algorithm. I teach clients how to develop their own intuition around food choices and learning how to listen to their body and what feels good to them.

As a feminist I have begun devoting a lot of my energy to hormone health and menstrual health, which is often ignored due to patriarchal influences in science, medicine, education, and other areas that impact our health. (I taught a workshop about this last week that you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewe43c770jg&feature=youtu.be)

My biggest goal is to educate people about the human body and about the natural cycles of life so they can make informed and intentional decisions about their health and become an expert in their own bodies.

I recently launched a new membership program in my business to do just that. To help people who menstruate to break out of standards of living that weren't designed to support them, start working WITH their cycles instead of resisting them daily, and improve period problems in the process.

Because period problems aren't just an inevitable part of life, but did anyone ever tell you that?

Most menstruators I talk to have been on the pill at some point in their lives. More often than not, it was prescribed for reasons that had nothing to do with actually preventing conception.⠀
⠀
For many, it was to regulate their period and PMS symptoms. But does it actually do that? Swipe for the info.⠀
⠀⠀
I address this and 4 other common beliefs about periods on the blog this week, including PMS symptoms, when you can get pregnant, and if fertility matters if you don't want kids. http://www.goodwitchkitchen.net/5-myths-about-your-period/

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR HORMONES ARE BALANCED?⠀
⠀
This is a big question. Since there are many hormones in the body and even more ways that things can go awry, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s going on for you without an evaluation from your health practitioner.⠀
⠀
HOWEVER. As you'll see, stress is a major contributor to any imbalance in the body. Always a good starting point to figure out how to chill the f*ck out and maybe even REST?⠀
⠀
Swipe through to see how it cascades. And head to my blog to get more deets on common symptoms of stress, thyroid, and reproductive hormone imbalances.⠀http://www.goodwitchkitchen.net/how-do-you-know-if-you-have-a-hormone-imbalance/

Remember Goldilocks and the Three Bears?⠀
⠀
Putting aside her criminal history, there's one thing we can learn from Goldie — how everything needs to be juuuust right.⠀
⠀
Your hormones have a lot of say in how your fertility, sleep, s*x drive, metabolism, mental health, energy, and more play out. If they're imbalanced, you’ll feel it in places that may not seem related at all. ⠀
⠀
It's the Goldilocks principle: You want not too much and not too little, but just the right amount, because even a small shift in one direction can be felt in a big way.⠀
⠀
This week's blog touches answers the question: How do you know if your hormones are imbalanced? Learn the symptoms and how everything is connected in our complex, beautiful bodies. http://www.goodwitchkitchen.net/how-do-you-know-if-you-have-a-hormone-imbalance/

You know me, I love to talk cycles. This week's blog post is gives you insight into what's *actually* going on inside your body re: menstrual cycle.⠀

When I feel disconnected, I imagine that all the pieces of me are detached from each other, but there’s still a single thread running through each of them.⠀
⠀
To pull that thread tight and bring all the pieces back together, try this sensory practice at your next few meals.⠀
⠀
Turn off the TV and put your phone in the other room. Give yourself some time and space to do this so you’re not rushing through before you have to run out the door. Sit down with your meal and use all of your senses. Go through them one by one.⠀
⠀
✨ Sight: What does the food look like? Do you enjoy its presentation?⠀
✨ Smell: What does your meal smell like? Can you pick out any particular aromas?⠀
✨ Taste: What does it taste like? Can you articulate the different flavors?⠀
✨ Hearing: Is it still sizzling? Does it make a loud crunch when you bite into it?⠀
✨ Touch: What is the temperature like? How does the food feel on your tongue?⠀
⠀
You could add a sixth sense in there, too. One of awareness of your body in space. So, how does the food feel inside your body? How does it make you feel?⠀

Do you ever feel a little disconnected from your body? Like you don’t actually know what’s going on inside of you?⠀⠀Th...

Do you ever feel a little disconnected from your body? Like you don’t actually know what’s going on inside of you?⠀
⠀
There’s a lot of talk in wellness about being ~in tune~ with yourself, but it’s really a nebulous concept and I’m pretty sure you’re like, “ok, but what does that mean ACTUALLY?”⠀
⠀
I see it as honing your intuition, and reconnecting your internal lines of communication that may have been busted from our culture of eternal connectivity, diet culture, and yes, the patriarchy!⠀
⠀
So, being able to listen to yourself basically.⠀
⠀
I wrote a blog this week about mind-body disconnection, how it happens, and what you can do to reconnect and superpower your intuition. http://www.goodwitchkitchen.net/how-we-lose-connection-to-our-bodies/
