Supporting young people means investing in our future.💙
Last week, NeighborHealth was proud to celebrate the opening of the new EASTIE Coalition youth space at the YMCA, a meaningful new place for young people to connect, grow, and lead.

Through leadership development and cultural connection, the EASTIE Coalition helps young people build community and support substance use prevention. When young people are empowered to create positive change for themselves and their community, the results are magical.

Thank you to the East Boston YMCA and the Coalition team, especially Nancy Slamet, for your leadership in making this space possible.

At NeighborHealth, we’re proud to support partnerships that help our communities thrive.

💙 Honoring 32 years of service and community impact.
We recently came together with staff, partners, and local leaders, including Rep. Adrian Madaro, to celebrate talented NeighborHealth social worker and behavioral health clinician Joanna Cataldo. Her work with the East Boston HUB—a powerful community partnership made up of the Boston Police Department (Official) and 20+ human services organizations -- makes Joanna a well-known presence in our community. The HUB's work to support individuals and families BEFORE crisis situations arise is an example of how caring for our community goes beyond the clinic.

Thank you, Joanna—and the entire HUB team—for all you do. 💙

Thank you to two tenacious maternal health leaders, Mimi Gardner and Sue Ghosh, for representing as part of the Perinatal Data Learning Collaborative (PDLC)—an effort launched by the Institute for Health Equity Research, Evaluation & Policy (IHE). Close collaboration with our peers is essential to improving maternal health outcomes across Massachusetts, and we are delighted to be part of this talented group.

Despite Massachusetts having some of the best health care institutions in the world, Black people in our state are still nearly two times more likely than white people to die during the perinatal period. This , we’re shining a light on this issue and spotlighting a solution that can reduce disparities.

Healthcare systems can leverage data to monitor the perinatal journey and identify opportunities to prevent poor outcomes. But pregnant people seek care in a variety of settings where electronic health records are not always interoperable with one another. If we can break down these data silos, we can close gaps in quality maternal care.

The Perinatal Data Learning Collaborative (PDLC) is part of the solution.

The PDLC was launched by the Institute for Health Equity Research, Evaluation, and Policy (IHE) and led by community health centers to enhance data tools and reduce maternal health inequities. In the collaborative’s first year, IHE partnered with NeighborHealth and Brockton Neighborhood Health Center (BNHC) to support the infrastructure and technical assistance needed to integrate multiple data sources into a custom, easy to use dashboard, designed to identify high-risk patients and track their care. The goals was for providers to see patients’ demographic data, pregnancy information, and mental health, clinical, and social determinants of health screenings all in one place.

The impact is clear. At BNHC, one expert provider used to need 10 minutes to review essential clinical data. Now, they only need two. This means more coordinated, timely, and equity-minded care, which can reduce health disparities for Black people and other historically underserved communities.

The PDLC is dedicated to scaling up their success. They are amplifying lessons learned with health centers across the Commonwealth and have implemented new perinatal data tools at nine additional health centers, in partnership with Azara Healthcare.

Quality data is essential to identifying and closing gaps in maternal care with the urgency the moment demands. We must use every tool at our disposal to ensure all parents and babies can thrive.
