The CDC estimates that between 30-50% of antibiotic use is unnecessary. BUT DID YOU KNOW....antibiotics may affect your brain! A 2022 paper found that, of the 14K women studied, those who reported at least 2 months of antibiotic exposure in midlife had lower mean cognitive scores 7 years later (adjusted for age and education).

The gut microbiome is increasingly recognized to play a role in cognition and dementia. Antibiotic use impacts the gut microbiome and has been linked with chronic disease. Despite these data, there is no evidence supporting an association between long-term ...

Ballroom dancing may be more effective than treadmill walking at preventing cognitive impairment and brain atrophy in older adults.

My guess is that dancing adds human contact/relationships, learning the dance moves, music, and more balance training.

"I hope you dance."

I have supported vitamin D supplementation for the last 15 years and the medical research continues to reinforce this.

The results of a recent study revealed that having higher levels of vitamin D in four key brain areas was associated with a compelling 25%-33% lower chance of demonstrating dementia or mild cognitive impairment at the time of the individual’s last evaluation before death.

What happens when you use a PERSONALIZED, PRECISION approach to treating mild cognitive impairment? Over 9 months, patients in this pilot study made changes to address diet, vitamin and mineral deficiency, exercise, sleep, toxin exposure, hormones, thyroid function, GI dysfunction and more. All cognitive performance tests showed improvement and brain volume on MRI remained more stable.

Research and medicine both love the reductionist approach. Who wouldn't love a silver bullet? But, this study is a great reminder that our body is a system and a systems approach is the ONLY way to address complex and chronic issues like Alzheimer's.

Based on the cognitive improvements observed in this study, a larger, randomized, controlled trial of the precision medicine therapeutic approach described herein is warranted.

Eating organic foods, free of pesticides isn't just a health fad. Over the years, RoundUp (glyphosate) has been linked to cancer, neurological conditions, reproductive health and more. They have settled over 100,000 lawsuits for adverse events. And, RoundUp has been banned in dozens of countries....but not the US.

With RoundUp under fire, Paraquat (another herbicide) came in to replace it. Yet, Paraquat is being linked to . The NIH acknowledged this link more than 10 years ago. Paraquat is currently banned in 32 countries....but not the US. It's taking private organizations to push our government to reconsider this potentially devastating risk.

An important breakthrough in ongoing work to ban paraquat, an herbicide thought to increase Parkinson’s risk by 100 to 500 percent, depending on overall exposure.

OMEGA 3 and VITAMIN D for the win! A 2018 randomized control trial found that 2000 IU of vitamin D and 722mg of DHA omega 3 improved irritability in children 2 1/2 to 8 years old with autism spectrum disorder. Vitamin D specifically improved hyperactivity. Coincidentally, the researchers found that omega 3 also reduced lethargy in these children.

REMEMBER: Supplementation is a long game strategy. This study was conducted over 12 months. It can take up to 3 months to see meaningful changes in omega 3 levels in the blood.

Irritability and hyperactivity are common in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Because pharmacological treatments may have adverse effects, and despite limited evidence, caregivers/parents often use dietary supplements such as vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids to address these behavioura...
