NO AI CONTENT!

We don’t allow the use of AI in our group & we won’t entertain debates about AI ethics.

1. Do not copy any group content into an AI tool:

Group content must remain in the group unless the author has given you written permission to share it elsewhere in advance.

2. Do not post/comment AI content:

Publicly available generative AI tools like ChatGPT are not well trained for medical topics. They are not search engines with a library of reliable medical information. They create (generate) new content that sounds believable, but usually includes misinformation throughout.

NAVIGATING THE FACEBOOK GROUP

Every Facebook group has the same basic structure. Admins can show/hide sections from the top row shown in the image. Each device’s user interface looks slightly different, but the options should be the same.

This row doesn’t usually show up in your main facebook feed. If you come across a group post in your feed, you can click on the group name at the top of that post to bring up the group’s page.

Here are the categories we currently have for the group…

Posts: This is the main group feed, showing group posts in order of relevance by default. You can change the filter to show new posts or recent activity first if you prefer.

Featured: Posts that the admins pin for easier access.

You: Anything you have posted in the group. You can manage your content (e.g. edit or delete) from there or by clicking the triple dots on the top right depending on the device, and it may change whenever facebook updates the app.

About: Group description, list of group rules, list of admins/moderators, etc. We use this page for all admin tasks.

Guides: Posts organized by topic. We add/remove guides and their posts as needed. Some of these posts are also pinned to featured.

Photos: Images posted by any group member.

Files: Files uploaded by any group member. Most of these are PDFs, but some older content included word documents and “notes” which is an obsolete Facebook collaborative document format. Facebook notes can only be viewed via desktop.

Albums: Collections of photos.

Reels: Videos posted by any group member.

Group FAQ: Why can’t I comment on a group post?

Sometimes comments are manually turned off by admins, but other times it happens automatically and is out of our control.

If you edit your anonymous post, the comments are locked automatically until your edits are approved by an admin. The timing of this being fixed is based on the admins having time to review your post. That often takes a few hours on weekdays, but it can be more/less depending on our availability.

If you can’t comment on any post, including posts you did not author where other members are actively commenting, it is possible that you have been suspended. When members are suspended, feedback notes are provided. If you can’t find these notes, just let us know by sending a dm to our page.

Sometimes comments are “slowed” for posts with high engagement. This limits the post to one comment every few minutes, and those comments are first come first serve. This helps slow down member conflict so we have time to moderate the comments.

Posts with certain keywords are flagged as spam. Facebook changes their list of keywords without notice and does not publish this list. Spam posts (and comments) are sent to our review folder, even if we had already approved the post.

Sometimes individual members will have a limited number of posts/comments per day. This is intentionally setup by the admins. If we have restricted your account, the reason was documented and provided to you. If you can’t find these notes, just let us know by sending a dm to our page.

Group FAQ: Why was my post declined?

Feedback notes are provided whenever a post is declined. These screenshots show how to find them when using the iphone facebook app. Other devices will have similar options, but their shape/location may be slightly different.

New England Endometriosis Support Group (formerly known as Greater Boston Endo Support Group) is a private Facebook group that was created in May 2016. Since then, it has grown to include 5,000 members from all over New England and the surrounding states.

Private Group Link: https://facebook.com/groups/neesg/

The main goal of New England Endometriosis Support Group is to help patients find adequate medical care nearby for endometriosis and adenomyosis. This is achieved through peer support, educational materials, and group resources such as the member-recommended providers lists.

The bulk of our members are patients (or prospective patients) seeking peer support for endometriosis and adenomyosis care. Family members and friends of patients are also welcome, so long as they respect the privacy of the patients in their lives.

We allow medical professionals to join the group. This may include endometriosis excision surgeons, pelvic floor physical therapists, or other medical professionals who just happen to live nearby.

A public page was created solely for the purpose of managing the private Facebook group. Its volunteer admins are local patients who have been members of the group for years.

Contact the admins: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BvVogYbrM/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Messages sent to the page are visible to all of the page admins, allowing us to share the responsibilities by assigning tasks to each person.

If you need any assistance related to our private support group, do not hesitate to reach out to us via DM!

Group FAQ: Why was my membership request declined?

Your membership may be declined for a few different reasons. If you need assistance with your membership request for something that is not addressed below, please contact our admin page via dm.

AUTOMATED FEATURES

We use Admin Assist features in the group for many tasks. One of these automates what to do with pending membership requests.

The tool automatically declines requests when…
• One or more membership questions are left blank
• Failure to agree to group rules

The automated features aren’t perfect, but they have been helpful for the admin team. The automated response typically occurs one hour after you request to join the group. If an existing member invited you, Facebook may set that timeline to 24-48hrs. We have no control over the time period.

FACEBOOK BUGS

Sometimes the membership questions won’t show up, or the app doesn’t let you answer them. Our automated tools will decline your membership request when this occurs. If this happens to you, please contact our admin page via dm for assistance. We will have you provide answers to the membership questions via dm instead.

Since the automated feature is time sensitive, you will need to interact with an admin in real time so they can approve your request before the automation occurs.

Other bugs may come up occasionally, such as not being able to request membership at all. In those cases, just let us know by dming the admin page.

MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS

Vague Answers: “Please elaborate” is included in all three questions. Vague answers will result in your member request being declined. Vague answers include one word responses, answering only part of the questions, etc.

“Wrong” Answers: If the answers you provided are incompatible with our rules or would otherwise be problematic for our group members and/or admins, we may decline your request.

MEMBERSHIP SCOPE

Our support group is primarily for endometriosis and/or adenomyosis patients, suspected patients, or people who are supporting patients who are seeking endometriosis-related care.

In some cases, we will allow medical providers to join the group. Many of these providers also have endometriosis and/or adenomyosis.

We limit membership to people who live nearby, or who are seeking care nearby. Currently, we have surgeon recommendations for CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, and VT.
