Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate, enjoy family, and yes… indulge a little. But overeating and sugar-heavy desserts can leave you feeling bloated, tired, and sluggish.

The good news? You can enjoy your favorite holiday foods and STILL protect your blood sugar, energy, and gut health — just by using a simple 3-step “Thanksgiving Meal Shield.”

🦃🍰 Want to Enjoy Thanksgiving Without the Food Coma?
Here’s How to Reduce the Negative Effects of Overeating (Without Missing Out!):

Here’s how it works 👇

🛡️ 1. Before You Eat (20–45 minutes before the big meal)

✔️ Focus on staying hydrated
Hydration improves insulin sensitivity and helps your body handle carbs more efficiently.

✔️ Eat a small fiber-rich snack
Think: a small salad, raw veggies, or a cup of berries.
Fiber slows down sugar absorption and helps you feel satisfied sooner.

✔️ Add a little protein
A handful of nuts, some turkey, or a quick protein shake will help stabilize blood sugar and reduce cravings before dessert even hits the table.

🍽️ 2. During the Meal & Dessert

✔️ Always eat dessert after your main meal
Never on an empty stomach — your protein, fiber, and healthy fats will act as a buffer and blunt the sugar spike.

✔️ Drink another big glass of water
This helps your kidneys flush out excess glucose and keeps you from feeling sluggish.

🚶 3. After the Meal (Within 90 minutes)

This is where the magic happens!

✔️ Move your body for just 10–15 minutes
A walk with family, playing with the kids, cleaning up, or even doing a few air squats helps your muscles pull sugar from your bloodstream without needing extra insulin.

This alone can reduce a post-meal blood sugar spike by up to 30–50%.

✔️ Keep moving lightly
Avoid sitting on the couch right away — stay gently active for at least 10 minutes.

🎉 Enjoy Your Holiday AND Feel Great

When you combine hydration + fiber + protein + light movement, you dramatically reduce the negative effects of overeating while still enjoying every Thanksgiving bite.

You deserve to enjoy this holiday feeling energized, present, and healthy — not tired and weighed down.

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃✨

If you know me, you know that working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) is at the heart of what I do through my business, Better Everyday LLC. One of my favorite places I serve is FRIENDS of Broomfield, Inc.

FRIENDS of Broomfield, Inc. provides life-changing opportunities, community, and daily support for people with disabilities — including the adaptive fitness classes I’m honored to teach twice a week. To help support funding for FRIENDS, I am going to hike a 14er while wearing a weighted vest in the summer of 2026!

Why a weighted vest?
Because many individuals with disabilities carry invisible “extra weight” every day — physical, emotional, and societal challenges most people never see. I’m carrying weight on this mountain to honor the extra weight they carry in life.

This climb symbolizes resilience, hope, community, and the belief that everyone deserves a healthier, stronger future.

The more money we raise, the heavier the weighted vest I carry to the summit:
💲 $1,000 raised → 30 lbs
💲 $5,000 raised → 40 lbs
💲 $10,000 raised → 50 lbs

"Making a choice that is 1 percent better or 1 percent worse seems insignificant in the moment, but over the span of moments that make up a lifetime these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be. Success is the product of daily habits—not once-in-a-lifetime transformations."

💛 World Kindness Day 💛

At Better Everyday LLC, kindness is one of my strongest training principles.

Kindness builds community. It strengthens confidence. It creates an environment where everyone — no matter their ability, background, or starting point — feels safe to grow.

Today, let’s all find one way to lift someone else up — with a compliment, a helping hand, or just a genuine smile.

Because when we lead with kindness, we make it easier for everyone to become a little bit better every day.

Nutrition Tip of the Week!

Maintaining liver and kidney health is essential for overall wellness, as these organs are key to detoxification, waste elimination, and metabolic regulation. Here are the best evidence-based strategies to keep both organs functioning optimally

Emphasize:
—Leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables (e.g., broccoli, Brussels sprouts)
—Berries, citrus fruits, apples
—Fatty fish (omega-3s), legumes, and whole grains
—Garlic, turmeric, and green tea (contain hepatoprotective polyphenols)

Limit:
—Added sugars, ultra-processed foods
—Excessive animal protein (especially red and processed meats)
—High-sodium foods (processed snacks, canned soups)

Grant A Dream is an incredible organization! If you or someone you know is a caregiver that works endlessly 24/7 taking care of a loved one, remember that Grant a Dream is here to help!

"I don't have family support...hiring babysitters feels like an insurmountable challenge." These are the words of a single mom to a son with autism. The isolation is one of the heaviest burdens for caregivers to carry.

That's why community and connection are at the heart of our getaways. It's a chance to be surrounded by others who understand the journey and to feel the embrace of a supportive community.
