Boulder, Colorado is my home town. I was born and raised here. I gave birth to my son and suuthe here.
Our little haven at the foot of the Rocky mountains, in the shadow of the Flatirons. We felt safe. A bit removed and protected from the harsh realities of the rest of the world.
Monday afternoon, as my son's friend approached the door of the King Soopers, he was met by the sound of gunfire and people streaming out of the store - running and yelling at him to TAKE COVER!
In an instant our idea - our belief - of safety shattered.
The young man is safe. But a colleague lost her life.
In place of thoughts and prayers for the families and our community, please take a moment to look with compassionate eyes.
Look at our world, our country, your neighbors, the people you don't agree with, with compassionate eyes. It will not change the horror of what happened here on Monday afternoon. But it will begin to change how we view each other. How we interact with each other.
Because when we look with kindness, compassion and acceptance, fear and anger fade and drop away. And with it our need to harm one another.
Hurtful words and weapons of war, may they evaporate in the face of compassion.
The entire suuthe team and I are grateful for your loyalty.
