Today was supposed to be my pitch for the Inno Startups to Watch nomination—
instead, an ice storm turned it into a full-blown blooper reel ❄️

Building Defying Dementia has taught me that progress is rarely linear.
You adapt. You regroup. You keep moving forward—
whether it’s a company, a mission, or a pitch attempt.

Grateful the event is being rescheduled… and grateful for the reminder that flexibility is part of the work 🤍

Yesterday’s No Falls Festival wasn’t just about preventing falls — it was about protecting brain health.

Falls often lead to hospitalization, isolation, and faster cognitive decline. That’s why fall prevention is a cornerstone of our Mindful Aging approach.

Safer movement = more confidence
More confidence = more engagement
More engagement = better brain health

This is what Mindful Aging looks like in action. 🧠✨

Still a little in disbelief as I write this…

Defying Dementia has been selected as one of KY Inno’s 2026 “Startups to Watch.”

When the email came in, I honestly forwarded it to two colleagues because I thought it might be fake or spam. Turns out — it’s very real, and I’m incredibly grateful and humbled by this recognition from Louisville Business First / KY Inno.

What started as a deeply personal passion — shaped by caregiving, grief, and a desire to do dementia care differently — has grown into a mission to support people living with cognitive change, their families, and the professionals who care for them through education, connection, and whole-person, brain-healthy approaches.

This honor reflects the community around this work: families who trust us, partners who collaborate with us, and supporters who believe dementia care can look better, kinder, and more human. 💙

We’ll be celebrating (and pitching!) at the KY Inno Startups to Watch event on January 27 in Louisville, and Defying Dementia will also be featured in the January 30 print edition of Louisville Business First.

Dementia can change the way a person processes language…
but it does not erase their need to feel seen, respected, and valued.
In this talk, I walk through simple communication strategies that:
✨ reduce agitation
✨ increase cooperation
✨ preserve dignity
✨ strengthen relationships
Whether you’re caring for a parent, working in senior care, or supporting someone you love — these tools matter
