Boxford Village Garden Club

Boxford Village Garden Club We strive to promote appreciation and understanding of earth-friendly gardening, civic beautification, floral design and horticulture in Boxford.

BVGC members maintain the grounds of several public locations in Boxford, provide garden therapy at Four Mile Village, decorate the Holyoke-French House for the Apple Festival, co-host the town's Earth Day. They also provide conservation and pollination information, make greenery for town buildings during the holidays, and deliver floral arrangements to Bread and Roses Soup Kitchen. The annual Plant Sale in May is the BVGC's biggest fundraiser.

The BVGC attended our annual Tri-Town Meeting last night, hosted by the Village Gardeners of Topsfield. The featured speaker was Warren Leach, author of "Plants for the Winter Garden". His presentation on choosing plants for color in winter was fascinating.

CEMENT LEAF WORKSHOP: On October 15, we had a fantastic workshop where we learned how to create a shallow cement bowl using a real leaf. An oversized leaf was placed over a pile of sand, cement was gently put over the top, and the creation was left for 24 hours to set. Larger leaves were left for 48 hours.

Thanks to our outstanding Creative Team for leading us in this fun workshop!

Yesterday was cleanup day at our six civic beautification sites. Every October the Boxford Village Garden Club gathers at our designated locations to tidy up the beds and urns and get these gardens ready to sleep for the winter. We will see you in six months when the sun comes back in April. 🌞

Last week we had a wonderful presentation by our own Joanna Walker, Director of the Boxford Library when she gave us a presentation on the new Seed Library and Community Garden. Thanks Joanna!

We also welcomed new member Lisa Glaskin during this meeting. General Meetings at the Boxford Village Garden Club are always open to the public. The next one will be in January, when we have Susan Nock.
