I was going through my photos tonight to clear up some storage... (boring!) when I found these two images taken in the same week in 2020. I find myself considering the juxtaposition this journey of foster care brings me to so many days. There are joys like capturing the moment of a school dress up day intertwined with really hard things. The truth is: I can't even remember what the situation was or which child it was that was dealing with the law at that point in time. Unfortunately, we have been there too many times to count now. Our society is failing our kiddos left and right. The trauma they experience makes it so much harder for them to make good decisions than the average child. Our schools, healthcare system, and justice system are not designed to support the hurting child. I mean no offense to those who painstakingly work to make a difference in those areas. We just need a major overhaul if we are going to combat for the future of our children. Our kids from hard places need a tremendous amount of support. EVERYONE is called to support our kids. You have a direct calling to make a difference in the life of a struggling child. Educate yourself on how you can help, not hurt. The reality is if you are not helping, you are part of the problem.
