When minutes matter, emergency care close by makes all the difference.

Skip and his fiancé were visiting from Missouri to attend a concert. While driving on the highway, Skip suddenly realized he couldn't form sentences. Although this was Skip's only symptom, they recognized its severity. Something was wrong.

Luckily, the couple was only minutes from TriStar Century Farms ER, and Skip quickly received treatment. The care team immediately knew Skip was experiencing a stroke and administered tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), despite not exhibiting any other stroke symptoms.

While Skip began feeling better soon after treatment, he was then admitted to TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center as a precaution. After a few nights in the hospital, Skip was discharged with no lasting effects from his stroke.

Skip's story emphasizes the importance of freestanding ERs. Without quick access to TriStar Century Farms ER, Skip may have experienced a different outcome. TriStar Health has eight freestanding ERs across the region, including our newest location: TriStar Nolensville ER.

"Time is precious."

When Harold of Red Boiling Springs woke up unable to move the left side of his body, his wife, Sherry, quickly recognized the signs of a stroke and jumped into action. Harold was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, where he received lifesaving evaluation and expert treatment.

“The care has been excellent, from the nurses, techs, housekeeping — everyone. We couldn’t ask for anything better,” Sherry shared.

After acute care, Harold transitioned to inpatient rehabilitation. While there, his therapy team coordinated an outing to a local Mexican restaurant to practice mobility, coordination and independence. The excursion was meaningful, illustrating how far he had come.

Harold has a message to share: know the signs of stroke (BE FAST), stay on top of your health numbers and prioritize your well-being before it’s too late.

A cancer diagnosis can be complex and overwhelming. But with our oncology nurse navigator teams, no one has to face it alone.💙

It’s National Oncology Navigator Day, and we’re proud to recognize the incredible work our specially trained clinicians do every day across our family of hospitals to support those with cancer.
