Postpartum anxiety doesn’t always look like worry.

Sometimes it looks like rage.

Many parents experience sudden bursts of anger, followed by guilt or shame, but these reactions can be linked to a nervous system stuck in survival mode.

In this new blog, psychologist Emily Guarnotta, PsyD, PMH-C explains why postpartum rage happens and shares practical ways to regulate your nervous system and find support.

Anger doesn't mean you're failing. It likely means you need support.

πŸ’™ New Year, New Awareness πŸ’™

As we step into January, it’s a powerful time to check in on how you’re really feeling during pregnancy and after birth.
Not every postpartum mood change is the same, and knowing the difference can help you get the right support:

πŸ”Ή Perinatal Depression (PPD): Persistent sadness, low energy, hopelessness, loss of interest; may last months without treatment
πŸ”Ή Perinatal Anxiety (PPA): Excessive worry, racing thoughts, panic; can interfere with daily life
πŸ”Ή Perinatal OCD (POCD): Symptoms include obsessions, compulsions, horror about obsessions, fear of being alone with baby, and hypervigilance

✨ Early recognition leads to earlier support and recovery.

And remember, perinatal mental health conditions can also include Bipolar Mood Disorders, PTSD, and Psychosis.

πŸ’™ You are not alone, and help is available.

If you need support now:
πŸ”· Call or text the Postpartum Support International HelpLine at 800-944-4773 (no diagnosis needed)
πŸ”· Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262
πŸ”· In a crisis, call or text 988
πŸ”· Download the Connect by PSI app
πŸ”· Visit Postpartum.net for programs and resources

✨ A new year can be the beginning of feeling better.

January is a time for fresh starts...but new parenthood doesn’t come with a reset button.

If you’re a dad feeling stressed, anxious, short-tempered, or just not like yourself, you’re not failing. You’re adjusting.

PSI’s Chat With an Expert for Dads is a free, confidential space to talk with a licensed mental health professional who understands the mental and emotional load of fatherhood.

No pressure. No judgment. Just support.
