Happy Easter everyone. I am getting close to my 1 year anniversary. Easter was April 9th last year, I got the call that a liver was available for me at 12:45 am Easter Monday.

I have made it to my 53rd birthday. I stayed positive and hopeful during my illness, but there was a little concern if I would get a transplant in time. With God's grace, the liver that tried to kill me failed to do so.

My last appointment with my Surgeon was yesterday. He is happy with my progress. I am transitioned back to my Physician, my appointment with him is towards the end of next month. Physical therapy is very happy with my progress on grip strength and walking. I still have balance issues, but we are trying to work on that too.

I am still working my way back to full time. Stamina takes a while to regain, the doctors warned me of that. I do get tired and need a nap when I get home. So far, it doesn't feel like I am going to fast. I am happy to be back out and about, but there was that small part of me that was starting to get used to being home so much. But I need to be up and moving to help the healing and stamina recovery. I have another appointment with my Surgeon next week, and then I am transferring back to the transplant doctor next month.

The time has come, I start back to work tomorrow. I will be starting with reduced hours and working myself back to full time. Another step in getting better. Physical therapy continues and is helping, I am still working on getting stamina built back up. All in all, I am progressing nicely. Thank you everyone for your continued love and support.

Time for another update. With permission and blessing from my Surgeon, I am spending time at home to see how I can handle it. And for a special treat, the pups came for some home time and loving from Daddy. It is good for them, me, and gives the baby sitter a little break from having so many kids at home. The girls and I are going to have a sleep over and they will go back to the baby sitter.

Update from yesterday's appointments at UPMC. Everything is progressing well. I am now getting blood work done every 2 weeks and my next appointment is in 2 months. The ultrasound was good, the new liver is working as it should. At physical therapy, grip strength wwas down a little, walking speed stayed the same, but I improved in the 6 minute walk for distance. In addition to the leg exercises I do at home, I have arm exercises now too. I have a grip strength trainer and a set of dumbbells on order.

Sorry all for the late update. I have been busy with my caregiver catching swarms of honeybees and putting up hay on the farm. Don't worry, he catches the bees, I stay a safe distance away (I am allergic to them). And he drives the tractors, I watch in case there is a problem and hand out cold water.

The wound I was packing has closed up and is scabbing over, everything is looking good there. No doctor appointment this week, it will be next week. They had scheduling conflicts and had to push it out a week. I will be getting an ultrasound to check how the new liver is doing, meet with the surgical team to discuss that and evaluate how I am progressing. And then I have an appointment with Physical Therapy. Next Tuesday is looking to be an all day event at UPMC.

I have been doing good and able to move around more. I did fall the other Saturday and land on my butt. My tailbone was sore for several days, but no fractures. If you lose your balance to the opposite side of your body from your cane, they don't pull against you to keep you upright.

I am now 1 month post transplant. All of the staples are out, I just have one spot that needs packed twice a day because it didn't close yet. I am still getting stronger, the last appointment with Physical Therapy at UPMC showed improvement in grip strength, balance, and walking speed. I still have work to do to get to their goals. But it should be doable.

A little late update. I had another appointment with my Surgeon and my Transplant Coordinator yesterday. I am progressing nicely. They removed my drain and half of the staples. The rest of the staples should come out next week.

Hello everyone. I am sorry I haven't been updating as much as I would like to. I am getting used to my new way of life. After the liver transplant and being immunocompromised, I have a lot of changes to make. I am getting through it all, but I still get pretty tired throughout the day.
