SALEM RESCUE SQUAD
2026 OFFICERS AND FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

The Salem Rescue Squad announced the election of its 2026 officers and director. The officers include President, Vincent Smith; Vice President, Jay Watters; Secretary, Eva Woodell; Treasurer, Dennis Campbell; Captain, Vicky Campbell; and Assistant Captain, Tim Phillips. Steve Snyder was reelected as a member of the Board of Directors joining existing Board members Edward A. Donoghue and Dean Hanks.

March is the start of the Salem Rescue Squad annual fundraising campaign. The Salem Rescue Squad is not a government agency and as a volunteer organization, depends on the financial and in-kind donations to complete its mission of providing prompt, efficient and often life-saving pre-hospital emergency medical care to the residents of Salem, Hebron, Jackson, East Greenwich and Rupert. Financial contributions to the Salem Rescue Squad will greatly assist in meeting day-to-day operational costs for things like vehicle maintenance and fuel for its three fully equipped ambulances, critical medical supplies, and member training. The Salem Rescue Squad recently took delivery of a new ambulance a year after it was ordered. It will replace an ambulance with more than 126,000 miles. It cost $350,000.00, three times more than the original cost of the 14-year-old ambulance being replaced. In 2025, thanks to the generous community contributions, the Salem Rescue Squad responded to 486 calls. This was a significant increase over past years that averaged around 400 calls. The Salem Rescue Squad envisions the number of calls increasing, due to the aging population in the community and now that the Salem Hudson Headwaters facility is
operational.

As is the case with most volunteer organizations, Salem Rescue Squad is facing difficult times with membership numbers that challenge us in meeting our mission. Our current members come from a variety of occupations. Some have day jobs, some are retired. The Salem Rescue Squad is urgently seeking new members and are asking that you please consider joining our team. Members can help in a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• Ambulance Drivers
• Attendants

If you can provide some time and the willingness to help, the Salem Rescue Squad will provide the training, equipment and uniforms. Flexible schedules are easily accommodated due to our 24/7 schedule. For more information about Salem Rescue Squad call 518.854.7199, follow us on Facebook or email salem44ems@hotmail.com. We would also like to remind readers to make sure that your 9-1-1 street address is clearly visible from the road so that we can locate you quickly during an emergency. Keep an up-to-date list of
your medical history, medications and dosages, and any allergies for yourself and family members. For more than 55 years, the Salem Rescue Squad has provided emergency medical services to citizens and visitors in Salem, Hebron, Jackson, East Greenwich and Rupert.

The Salem Rescue Squad extends our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Kevin Robert including the LifeNet team, Clifton Park/Halfmoon EMS, Malta-Stillwater EMS and Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, Inc. Please keep them all in your thoughts.

We are devastated to share that Flight Paramedic Kevin Robert passed away last night, August 27th, following a sudden medical emergency. Kevin, alongside a flight nurse and pilot, were caring for a patient aboard LifeNet 7-13, based out of Ticonderoga, NY.

Our crew quickly landed at a nearby hospital while our communications center coordinated emergency resources for Kevin and our patient. Despite the extraordinary efforts of our crew, communications teams, first responders, and the hospital staff, Kevin could not be revived.

Our priority now is the well-being of our teammates and the continued support of Kevin’s family. The Ticonderoga base remains on safety stand-down as we allow our team the time and space they need to grieve.

We ask that you keep Kevin’s family, friends, and teammates in your thoughts, and join us in respecting their privacy as we all navigate this heartbreaking loss. We will forever cherish the memories Kevin leaves with us, and we will carry his memory and legacy with us on every mission.

Please be safe. Remember to check on your friends, family and neighbors.

We would like to take a moment to congratulate Jay Watters, our Vice President, who has recently completed courses to become an Advanced EMT. The class was being held at The Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad. This was an 8-month course with approximately 160 hours of training, classwork, field clinical time, and countless hours of studying. Last night the A-EMT class took their PSE.
Congratulations to all the students in the A-EMT class. We wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors!
