Writing coaching is about building skills and finding the voice of each individual so they can write well and with confidence. When I work with students, I acknowledge both their strengths and difficulties, and give them support and writing tools so that they can write well now and in the future.

If writing your ideas down is difficult, you can try talking through your ideas first. Have a friend or family member listen while you talk about all the things your essay topic makes you think of. Ask the person who is listening to try to notice what ideas you talk about more than once, or anything they notice you focusing on. You can also do this by recording yourself and then playing it back. What are you focusing on most? The answer to that question can help you decide what the main idea of your essay should be.
