it’s hard to feel divided from the ones we love➗

for many people, including random art-minded designers like myself, math has provided an unexpected escape. it’s offered a rare feeling of balance and creativity in an otherwise severely imbalanced world.

as 2025 kicks off with problems that can make even the most enlightened mathematicians scratch their heads, I personally hope to keep sharing whatever joy and escape I can.

how will we square a year like this? I honestly don’t know. but I do know that we’re going to want to use every expression we can, to connect with the people we love the most.

wishing you all safety, stability, and hopefully plenty of chances to feel curious and playful this year.

everything is finite and our 2-week soho pop-up is no different, as it reaches its inevitable end today. it’s been beyond gratifying to witness these cards become a part of people’s lives, and I wanted to mention a few that stood out:

💌 a girl who fled her war-torn homeland to spend 48 hours with her friends in New York,

💌 a father whose eyes lit up as he explained to his two kids why their mother was array of sunshine,

💌 a young guy who rushed back to exchange a different card for his girlfriend starting her medical residency, saying “I think she’ll like this one better,”

💌 a farmer who described daydreaming about fractals during the long summer shifts,

💌 a group of girls looking for cards to cheer up their sick friend,

and too many more to count. I’ll be honest, I don’t remember when it was that I personally decided on math as a means to express emotion, but after having witnessed these stories over the past two weeks I feel more gratified than ever about its ability to connect all walks of life.

is there a difference between love and paying attention? because hearing “I know someone who will laugh at this” is enough proof for me that they’re one and the same.
