Spring is in full bloom 🌼

Daffodils and crocuses herald the season,
with tulips and the native plants we also sowed back in October close behind

Fifteen of us collectively stewarded these tree beds on City of Forest Day last year —
and now the land smiles back.

Grateful to everyone who showed up to tend this space alongside Sunshine Community Garden,
and to our event partners who helped make it possible.

Welcoming the new calendar year in New York also means beginning to dream forward into spring 🌱

There’s something deeply satisfying about flipping through the catalog alongside a growing seed collection, imagining what wants to take root this season.

December 31 ✨

Herbal water cleansing ~ a practice rooted in lived tradition, working with plant allies in a herbal bath or shower rinse, allowing water, flowers, and minerals to gently cleanse and renew.

While time moves in cycles shaped by land and sky, this shared moment within the collective calendar can feel like a soft threshold for reflection and release.

Plant allies and elements used:
• Rosemary for cleansing and mental clarity
• Basil for prosperity and blessings
• Rose petals for love and emotional balance
• Palo Santo for grounding and clearing
• White copal for prayer and purification
• Salt for protection

Agua Florida was included, infused with prayer and icaros from past plant dietas.

When showering, the herbal water is poured over the body at the end, after washing as usual, as a final cleansing rinse, offered with intention.

With gratitude for our beloved plant allies and the Spirit Alchemy community.

We built my first greenhouse! 😍🏡🪴

What took us over 4 hours in less than 20 seconds 🥲

This year, I acquired a few fruit tree saplings that are still rooting themselves & I wanted to eliminate any risk of them not surviving winter.

You see, we are super blessed to have a spacious backyard in Brooklyn, but it’s concrete and unless we own the place, all we can really do is keep our plants in movable containers.

The caveat is that containers need to have extra insulation during wintertime, especially if the plants are young and are still forming their root systems. Otherwise they can freeze and not wake up in spring.

So to avoid that altogether, my beloved gifted me this little greenhouse, my very first one 🥹

I have some big dreams when it comes to greenhouses, and this is definitely a step into that direction. 🌿

🌳 Tree Love on the Block is happening this Saturday in East Williamsburg!

We’ll be caring for the tree beds on McKibbin & Seigel — pulling weeds, mixing in compost, planting bulbs, and spreading mulch to support our local canopy 🌿

✨ We have a few volunteer spots left, and everyone who joins will receive a free gardening tool kit to take home (while supplies last!)

We’ll meet and wrap up at the garden. Beverages provided, and light snacks are welcome as we wind down together 💚

This offering is part of with — a citywide celebration of NYC’s urban forest and the people who care for it 🌱

Blessed Earth Day, Earthlings! 🌎🌸✨

Grateful to have met this magnificent Tree (magnolia x soulangeana) recently.

Magnolias have an ancient lineage. Fossils of them have been found dating back to 130 million years ago!

It is believed that they are the oldest flowering tree.

📍 This one can be found between two other smaller magnolias on the Southside of Lake.

Thank you, Mother Earth, for your mesmerizing beauty!
