Part 1 of a series highlighting how cultural context matters in the workplace.

I do about 25+ speaking engagements a year and am currently open for 1-2 more slots in May (Mental Health Awareness + AAPI heritage) and for anytime later in the year!

You can go to my website or comment SPEAKING to get my speaker guide and contact my team to start a conversation about bringing me in. I offer original and tailored curricula, workshops, keynotes, fireside chats and book talks!

What else would you add to this list?

Many of us were taught to prepare for loss, worst case, things not working out. And I get it, it’s rooted in history, safety, power, structural context. AND My goodness we deserve abundance. We deserve more, we deserve ease, we deserve time, and rest and comfort and possibility and space.

I wrote a free essay on this (types of abundance, how discomfort shows up, and how to work through this), just comment NEWSLETTER to read the whole thing.

With National Healthcare Decisions Day coming up on April 16, which exists to encourage and empower people to begin or continue conversations about their wishes for care through the end of life, I am happy to partner with to amplify their work in creating free resources for you to have these painful and difficult conversations with loved ones (and in different languages) about end-of-life decisions.

You can learn more on their website!

Is this a conversation you’ve had with loved ones yet? What has worked for you given cultural context?

Note: While this post focuses on having these conversations with our immigrant parents, I want to encourage you to have these conversations all around – with siblings, friends, partners, and with yourself. This is a part of community care, even if it’s uncomfortable and inconvenient.

I see you. You are welcome here.

If you need soft spaces to land and be in community with others like you... places where you can take your mask off and just be.. I have intentionally created two over the years ❤️

✍🏽Culturally Enough is an online community with over 11K members where we deep dive on topics, have a book club, meet on Zoom monthly, and I facilitate private interviews and conversations (I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to revamp this space and it’s coming back in May) so comment NEWSLETTER to sign up!

👩🏽‍💻Boldly Bicultural is a three month community program run by me with an intimate group of community members. Comment BOLD to learn more and get on waitlist.

Welcome to Unlearning in Public, a series where I will post more journal like posts to share, vulnerably, what I’m working through because the truth is I’m navigating and processing all the things we talk about here, too.

To be honest, this feels uncomfortable to share. As this community and my work and knowledge in this work has grown, so has the expectations to show up a certain way or speak on certain topics a captain way. The truth is: I’m human like you and don’t have it all figured out. Some things affect me more or less and some things are harder for me, too.

But I started this community 7 years ago to help feel less alone and I’m so proud and humbled to be a (single) voice for you and be a part (in any way!) in your healing journey. But I also want to continue to connect person to person.

Right now, this move has been bringing up a lot. After a VERY hard year last year, my husband and I decided we could benefit from more space. So we moved from an apartment to a townhome that we now own.

For many people reading this, that’s not a big deal. And for some reason the guilt and grief and joy have been so overpowering and it made me realize there’s so much underneath I’m working through when it comes to “scarcity” and “enoughness.” Abundance as a concept is large and can mean different things and this is just a micro example of how it can bring out narratives and beliefs we hold.

So I wanted to share. How do you navigate all the ways abundance can manifest in your life? What about the emotions associated with it?

I also want to be clear that “abundance” is relative and differs for everyone. And abundance is also a mindset not always a literal, tangible thing. So I’ve always struggled with having a scarcity mindset and accepting abundance in all ways. I’m going to write a deeper dive on the general concept and how I see this community struggle with “abundance.” If that interests you, comment NEWSLETTER to sign up for free and get the essay when it drops this week!

I’ve been MIA navigating personal things, prioritizing my therapy clients and Boldly Bicultural (info in bio if you haven’t heard of my community program), and generally just taking in and reacting to the state of the country and world.

So many people I’m talking to and working with these days are feeling so existentially overwhelmed and numb. So I created a list of emotional and behavioral rhythms I tend to work with them on now to ensure that they are moving through each and building range to cope with today’s world.

I didn’t want to gatekeep this so here you go. Do you notice you’re stuck in one or two modes more than others? How can this help you moving forward?

In solidarity ❤️🫂
