Green light … red light! 🚦

Red light green light is a fantastic game for dogs with high energy. Not only does it get your dog to pay attention and control their impulses, but it is entertaining for both you and your dog. This game is simple to play, here’s how it works:

1. In order for the game to work, your dog will have to understand the difference between the “red light” and “green light” command.

2. First, have your dog sit, then say “green light” while encouraging them to follow a toy or treat.

3. While they’re following you, say “red light” and tell your dog to sit or lay down.

4. Repeat the process until your dog has an understanding of each command.

Now, you have an enrichment activity you can do with your dog at any time, indoors or outdoors. Let us know your experience of trying this out with your dog below!

Puzzle activities are a great way to stimulate your dog's mind and challenge their problem-solving skills. This type of game usually involves hiding treats or toys within a puzzle for your dog to uncover.

Here are a few examples to get started:

Flip boards: This game requires your dog to flip over boards to reveal hidden treats.

Ball puzzle: A ball puzzle is a toy that dispenses treats when your dog figures out how to roll the ball in just the right way.

Snuffle mat: A snuffle mat is a mat filled with fabric strips or fleece that your dog has to snuffle through to find hidden treats.

Interactive food puzzles: These puzzles require your dog to manipulate pieces or parts of the puzzle to reveal hidden treats or food.

These are just a few examples of the many dog puzzle activities available on the market. The key is to find a game that is appropriate for your dog's skill level and interests, and to provide plenty of positive reinforcement as they learn and play. Give it a try and see how your dog likes it!

Obstacle courses are a great way to provide mental and physical stimulation for your dog. It can be anything from as simple as an object to jump over or an intricately designed space for your dog to traverse through.

You can create your own by cutting a hole through a cardboard box, placing down a few cups, placing a few chairs or anything else! Feel free to get as creative as you desire. Be sure not to make it too complex as your dog is just starting, practice makes perfect! Rewarding them through each success will certainly assist your dog along the way.

Here are some simple steps to get started:

1. Create an obstacle course with any object or material you may have. Start off simple!

2. Introduce your dog to the obstacle course to help them become more familiar and comfortable with what's expected by the course.

3. Use treats and positive reinforcement to encourage your dog as they navigate the course. Remember to reward them for each successful completion of an obstacle.

4. As your dog becomes more confident and skilled at the course, you can add new obstacles or make the existing ones more challenging. Keep in mind your dog's abilities and make sure the course is still safe for them.

Obstacle courses can improve your pups confidence, improve agility, and improve coordination. 💪

Sound familiar? Shell game is a popular game among humans - and dogs too! 🐚 Teaching this to your dog can be tricky but starting off simple can go a long way. This game trains your dog to use visual tracking and requires active thinking.

To begin:

1. Allow your dog to watch as you place a treat under one of 3 cups.

2. Then, signal for them to take the treat from under the cup.

3. After a few rounds, change where you place the treat. If your dog selects the right cup, give them the treat. If not, show them the correct location of the treat and have them try again. This will let them know that they must pick the cup that has the treat under it.

4. If your dog has gotten the hang of this, up the difficulty by placing a treat under the cup and switching the cups around. This will trigger a visual response within your dog as they have to track where the treat is going.

This is a game that requires patience, and don’t forget to cheer your dog on along the way!
