URGENT ACTION FOR GONPO KYI AND DORJE TASHI TODAY!

Just yesterday, Gonpo Kyi jumped out of a hotel window in an urgent act of resistance, after a day held in Chinese detention in Lhasa for appealing to visit her brother Dorje Tashi.

Within hours, SFT activists mobilized a 24 hour solidarity fast to represent the day Gonpo Kyi spent in captivity and to demand justice for Gonpo Kyi and Dorje Tashi.

At the same time, Xi Jinping is currently in Lhasa, Tibet on a propaganda tour to “celebrate” the 60 year founding anniversary of the so called Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). While China touts lies about Tibet to the world, Gonpo Kyi has continued to bravely resist and speak truth to power every single day.

“I have long admired Jigme Gyaltsen’s school as the model of culturally relevant Tibetan education and its closure is a devastating loss for Tibetans everywhere,” said Dr Gyal Lo, an educational sociologist and Tibet Specialist at Tibet Action Institute. “The Chinese government must immediately re-open this award-winning Tibetan school and allow all 1,400 students and 58 teachers and staff to return and focus its attention on shutting down the coercive boarding school system as recommended already by dozens of governments and the world’s top human rights experts at the United Nations,” Dr. Gyal Lo continued.

Our son, Nick Gulotta, was awarded his Masters degree in May from CUNY where he is an adjunct professor, Nick has the qualities to be a dynamite professor: articulate, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. CUNY is lucky to have him.

This week I joined a chevra kadisha and learned to do tahara for the dead. People who had done it before described it as very moving. It is similar to the Islamic Janāzah death rituals, You do not leave the body unattended, the deceased is washed and dressed in white. As I get older, the more these spiritual rituals mean to me.

My friend Sheila Dallas-Katzman who innovates ways for poor rural women to organize was nominated for a prestigious award. I posted about her idea to train women to use cell phones which are fairly ubiquitous to record photos of, say, dried-up streams where global warming has made their life harder. She is expanding it to merge with AI and women are interested.
