Are you looking to find gratitude journal prompts to start feeling a bit more appreciation towards the little things?

The shift from summer to fall often brings a sense of change. As the air cools and the days shorten, nature seems to invite us to slow down and reflect. This blog post is your reminder that even small moments can bring joy today and help you feel gratitude in ways that support your emotional well-being. When you practice gratitude on a regular basis, you create gentle pauses that help your body relax, your mind settle, and your heart reconnect with the things that matter.

Fall can also stir up mixed emotions. Maybe the last time this season rolled around, something difficult happened, or maybe you’re holding stress, grief, or loneliness right now. That’s okay. This isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about noticing even one moment of appreciation, one taste you enjoyed, one favorite hobby that brings comfort, or one person who made a positive impact on your day. These small reflections hold real power. They can help you sleep a little easier, feel more grounded in your faith or values, and remember what you’re thankful for in your life.

As you explore these prompts, take a breath and check in with yourself. What’s the first thing you’re glad you experienced today? What concept of gratitude feels most helpful to you? Let yourself slow down, write, talk things through on the page, and notice what rises to the surface. If you prefer, you can save or print a printable version of these prompts to keep nearby. This season is an invitation to reconnect, reflect, and honor the moments that help you feel grateful, even in the middle of whatever you’re working through.

Do you have an extremely sad person in your life, whose sadness gets worse during the holidays?

The holiday season arrives with a wave of expectations. We see images of joy, connection, and celebration everywhere. But for many, this time of year can magnify feelings of loneliness, grief, and hopelessness. The contrast between cultural pressure to be merry and the quiet pain a person may be feeling can be overwhelming. As therapists who have supported many clients through this season, we want to share how you can recognize and respond when someone you care about seems especially sad or withdrawn. Your gentle support can make all the difference.

We discuss an upcoming workshop focused on resetting the nervous system after trauma, addressing the challenges of PTSD and complex PTSD, and providing strategies for managing holiday-related stress and triggers. ❤️‍🩹

As the days get shorter and the skies turn gray, do you ever feel like your energy and mood are dimming along with the sunlight? It’s common to feel a little more sluggish or down during the winter months. For some, this change is more than just the “winter blues”; it’s a form of depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

SAD is directly linked to the reduction in natural sunlight we experience in fall and winter. This lack of light can disrupt your internal clock, or circadian rhythm, leading to feelings of fatigue, sadness, and low motivation. The good news is that a proven, effective, and gentle treatment can help—light therapy. By mimicking the natural light of the sun, it helps reset your body’s clock and lift your spirits.

If you’ve noticed your energy levels dropping this winter, you’re not alone—and light therapy may help you feel like yourself again.

Are you or someone you love struggling with holiday depression?

The holiday season arrives with a flurry of lights, music, and social gatherings. It’s often portrayed as the most wonderful time of the year, filled with joy and connection. But for many, this season brings a heavy mix of stress, sadness, or loneliness. As a therapist, I have seen how the holiday blues can show up in subtle and surprising ways, casting a shadow when everyone else seems to be celebrating.

If you feel off when everyone else seems cheerful, you are not alone. These feelings are valid and more common than you might think. We will explore the differences between seasonal affective disorder and holiday-related stress, identify common triggers, and discuss gentle ways to find peace and connection again. You deserve to feel supported during this time.

It takes courage to learn, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like gender identity. Many people are trying to better understand the world and the people in it, yet outdated and hurtful terms like “transvestite” still circulate, causing confusion and pain. The word has a complicated history—once used in clinical settings, it is now largely considered offensive and inaccurate.

Language is always changing, and our willingness to learn and adapt is a powerful act of respect and inclusion. As we observe Transgender Awareness Week, it’s the perfect time to reflect, grow our understanding, and commit to using words that affirm and support others. Taking the time to get the language right shows you care.

If you’re exploring your own identity or supporting someone who is, know that compassionate, affirming help is available. You don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

Each November, we have an opportunity to pause, learn, and grow together during Transgender Awareness Week. This is a time dedicated to celebrating the courage and resilience of transgender and non-binary people while raising visibility for the issues the trans community faces. As a therapist, my commitment is to create safe, affirming spaces where every identity is honored. This week is a powerful reminder of that promise, a time to honor the stories and strength that lead us to the solemn Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s a call for understanding, compassion, and connection.
