Most people think momentum starts with motivation…

It doesn’t.

Motivation is loud. It feels exciting. It shows up when things are easy… and disappears the moment they’re not.

Momentum is quieter.
It’s built through small actions repeated consistently over time.
One workout.
One email sent.
One difficult task you didn’t really feel like doing.

None of these feel huge in the moment.
But a little bit a a time, they stack.
And once things start moving forward, your mind wants to keep it going.
That’s momentum.

Here’s where most people lose it.
They miss a day.
Which, honestly, isn’t a big deal. Missing a day doesn’t destroys progress. (Sometimes it’s what you need when you can’t get out of your own way)

What usually destroys momentum is the story that follows:
“I already broke the streak.”
“I’ll start fresh next week.”
“This week is kind of a wash anyway.”
Momentum doesn’t disappear because you miss a day.
It disappears when you stop showing up.
So if yesterday wasn’t perfect, that’s fine.
Just show up today…

Because momentum doesn’t come from motivation.
It comes from showing up, over and over again.. especiallly when you don’t feel like it.

How bad do you really want it?

And the better question — how much are you willing to hurt for it?

The CrossFit Open is a great test to answer that question. Of course, when the workout is released, we game plan.. we set a goal, and we THINK we know that answer…

Until the first little bit of adversity hits us.

A missed rep, elevated heart rate… or just insane muscle fatigue.

What do we do when that happens? Do we change course, or do we keep our foot on the pedal?

There are parallels to these situations in workouts and in real life.
