Writing this week's blog post brought up emotions I thought I'd processed years ago.

🌲 How I went from exhausted to energized in 5 minutes last Saturday

You know those weekend mornings when you should feel rested but instead feel like you got hit by a bus? That was my Saturday.

I was dragging despite getting decent sleep. Didn't want to do anything, just wanted to hide under the blankets.

Then I remembered this blend I'd made for my husband when his energy was crashing at work. Black Spruce (Picea mariana) and Pine (Pinus sylvestris) oils in Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil, applied over the kidneys - something I'd read about in Kurt Schnaubelt's aromatherapy book. The idea is these oils can gently support the adrenal glands without the coffee crash.

I figured it was worth a shot.

About 5 minutes after rubbing it on my lower back, I started feeling this warm tingling spread through my body. The brain fog just lifted. Not that jittery coffee energy, but like my body actually woke up.

By afternoon I'd gotten stuff done around the house, spent time outside with my husband, and still had energy for our evening fire pit.

Random bonus: When I breathed in the oils from my hands after applying, my stuffy nose cleared up for hours. Wasn't expecting that!

Finding Comfort When You Need It Most 🌸

I'm having one of those days. My daughter's celebrating her birthday in Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ where she's working on her language skills, and for the first time, I'm not there with her. I've been sitting at my desk all morning, staring at this project, feeling pretty lousy about missing such a big day. πŸ˜”

That's when I noticed this pink box I'd left sitting there - Salvatore Battaglia's KOKORO collection. I pulled out his WABI SABI blend, and honestly, it shifted something in me. ✨

You'd think as an aromatherapist, I'd always have the perfect blend ready for moments like this. But some days, you just don't have it in you to create something from scratch. Mannheim's morning came with an unexpected reminder from across the Rhine...

If you're local, you probably got that alert on your phone and caught a whiff of the wonderful Industrial scent wafting over from our neighbor Ludwigshafen. Not exactly the wake-up call we were hoping for – that chemical smell had half the city wondering what was going on.

Funny thing, this morning's distinctive aroma took me straight back to my childhood in Mannheim. It's strange how even less-than-pleasant smells can trigger such vivid memories, right? While most people think only sweet or pleasant scents spark nostalgia, sometimes it's those distinct industrial notes that can transport you back in time just as powerfully.

Good news is that officials confirmed it's not dangerous, but still... nothing like an industrial mishap to make you appreciate normal, fresh morning air, right?

It got me thinking about our work at Rifugium Aromaticum. We've always focused on pure, natural scents, but today really drives home why that matters. There's something deeply unsettling about artificial smells creeping into our everyday lives.

Today's fireworks hit different. They always take me back to when my [family member/friend] was deployed, and I know some of you get that same knot in your stomach when the celebrations start.

Found myself reaching for my old faithful today - burning some Frankincense (both carterii and papyrifera). Something about that ancient scent just steadies the nerves, you know?
