The problem with sober houses and rehab centers is they do not appeal to the younger addicts mentality and lifestyle desires. They want to be cool and express themselves in ways that the seasoned recovered addict or alcoholic cannot relate to. Bland boring monotonous rigorous routine of responsibility and recovery…it does not appeal to the extremely stimulated mind of today’s addicted youth. Sober houses for young men and women need to cater to the wants and needs of the young mind! Young people need to have fun and be creative and feel extraordinary and unique, develop talents and become educated where they most need education. Young prematurely addicted women mostly care about boys and need to feel wanted and attractive, have fun and have friends…a codependency for sure, but human nature. That’s why the homeless youth population census sores everyday, because if and when when we do get our addicted youth into a sober living environment they just walk out and leave. In search of the stimulating life the streets and drug houses have to offer them. They haven’t experienced enough of the cold world that lies therein, they haven’t exausted there phone a friend for help tactics yet, adult addicts keep them around and hostage in their addiction because they have value still. The girls are trafficked and traded for substances and may even think the pleasure and attention they receive is what they didn’t have at home or in sobriety, the young men and boys are used in the same way many times, or are groomed to be dealers and stealers and oftentimes worse. Maybe Tim Tebow will wander upon this problem with his forces in his heroic search for our exploited children and somehow do more than care, because all we can do right now is care and pray when the resources are thin, and hearts are few and able hands are even fewer. I am from the addiction side of humanity, I have been abused and I have been the abuser, never understanding that’s not the cycle God intended for us when he put us in those situations. I have made it through the places from wich many will never return. Grace, love, the glory from my personal God and savior and courageous determination have propelled me forward in the coldest world, and now I am sending my heart back to that place hoping somehow I will be able to reach a hand there someday as well. Until then, let’s try to remember that our children are being plucked away by chemical warfare and over stimulation and getting them back is going to take a little reform in the way we receive them. Young traumatized minds are feeble and immature, stunted and underdeveloped. I do not have the surefire solution, only a close and personal understanding of the problem. Feel free to suggest ways to get addicted youth excited about sobriety, hopeful about the future and able to learn from the past.
Sober talk yall.
