🎧 NEW EPISODE ALERT! 🎧

Episode 2: "When Do You Get to Be YOU?" is now live!

Ever feel exhausted from wearing so many different masks? At work, as a parent, in relationships - we're constantly adapting who we are to fit different situations. Host Retha Jones and guest Nicole Dunn dive deep into this struggle we all face.

Key takeaways from this powerful conversation:

✨ We wear different "hats" throughout our day - professional at work, nurturing as parents, appropriate at church - but when do we get to just BE ourselves? [0:19]

✨ This constant role-switching can lead to stress, anxiety, and even depression because we never get to express our authentic selves [6:55] [7:32]

✨ Sometimes we act out, drink, or get frustrated because we're trying to mask the pain of never being truly heard [8:27] [8:45]

✨ Nicole shares her daily practice: taking 90 minutes each morning for herself - watching the sunrise, listening to birds, and preparing mentally for the day while practicing being authentic (with fewer swear words!) [20:59] [21:28]

The workplace discussion hit different - why do employers hire you for who you are, then want you to be someone else? [11:22] [12:25] It's exhausting playing mental gymnastics instead of just doing your job!

This episode will make you think about when YOU get to truly be yourself. 💭

When Do You Get to Be You | Episode 2
The Journey to Mental Greatness with
Host: Retha Jones (RJ and Then Some)
Guest: Nicole Dunn

The main theme in Ep. 2 explores how people must wear different "hats" or personas in various life situations, making it difficult to be authentic

The conversation connects this authenticity struggle to mental health, with Retha suggesting that stress, anxiety, and depression may stem from never being allowed to be your authentic self.

"THE BRAIN WORKS IN COMPLETIONS" - Why unfinished tasks drain us... concepts from Episode 1

When we have unfinished tasks piling up, our brain keeps them in "active memory" like open browser tabs draining your phone battery. Each incomplete task is taking up mental energy, even when we're not consciously thinking about it. That's why you can feel exhausted even when you "haven't done anything" Your brain has been running in the background trying to track all those open loops.

- What do you think about this concept?
- What unfinished tasks have you not completed and why?

DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF

"I've learned to not judge my insides by other people's outsides and assume that they got everything together because they present it well. They might not. That might be the only thing they can do is present well. You never know."
~ Retha Jones

The Story That Changed My Perspective
https://www.facebook.com/reel/863547636059105

One of my favorite stories to tell on this topic:

There was a girl who came to work. We worked the same job as a CNA. We both had the same amount of children. We made the same money. Her husband didn't work; my mate was working. She had two cars.

Her kids were always perfectly dressed—shoes, sneakers matching the fits. She was always perfectly dressed, new hairdo every week, nails always done.

I was walking around with five-year-old sneakers, and I'm like, "What am I missing?"

⏰ "WHEN IS THERE EVER A RIGHT TIME?" ⏰

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1FXSjE5577/

In Episode 1, I shared my story about leaving my second marriage while pregnant (yes, I've been married 3 times—don't judge me 😂).

Everyone kept asking, "Is this the right time?" And it made me so mad. But I didn't know why until it hit me:
There is NEVER a right time to end something—healthy or unhealthy.

When you're in a relationship, you're there for a reason. You like that person. So leaving is ALWAYS going to feel hard. There's no "perfect" moment.

The same is true for:

- Starting that business
- Going back to school
- Changing careers
- Setting a boundary
- Asking for help

If you wait for the "right time," you'll be waiting forever. The time is gonna pass anyway. What are you gonna do with it?

Watch Episode 1 for the full story and more real talk about procrastination, perfectionism, and how they lead to depression.
